Like many singers, Su Hong, who grew up in Liaoning, was also able to sing and dance from an early age, and at the age of 15, she was successfully admitted to the Liaoning Benxi Song and Dance Troupe and sang opera on the stage for ten years.
Although she performed famous dramas such as "Tianya Singer" and "Little Erhei Marriage", opera is relatively unfamiliar to the public after all, Su Hong is not satisfied with only developing in Benxi and Liaoning, and resolutely came to Beijing in 1984 and decided to change opera to singing.
An admissions advertisement she saw by chance attracted Su Hong, who came to The Gu Jianfen Art Training Center and met Gu Jianfen, the most important noble person in her life. Here, Su Hong received systematic musical training.
At that time, the songs of Hong Kong and Taiwan singers such as Teresa Teng and Liu Wenzheng had already spread to the mainland and were also welcomed by young listeners, but Gu Jianfen did not advocate that his students imitate these songs, but to sing their own characteristics.

In 1986, the first year of Chinese pop music, hundreds of singers sang "Let the World Be Full of Love" in the workers' body. Also in this year, Su Hong, whose singing skills gradually matured, participated in the second CCTV Young Singers Competition and won the first place in the popular singing professional group.
The biggest highlight of this year's Youth Song Contest is the establishment of three singing methods of bel canto, ethnicity and popularity for the first time and live broadcast. The confirmation of popular singing methods also made the mainland pop music that had been dormant for many years finally surface from the semi-underground state, and singers such as Su Hong were also known.
Who won the second and third places that year? The second place was Wei Wei, and the third place was Mao Amin and Wang Hong.

In the spring evening of 1987, Su Hong participated in the performance as a special guest actor, wearing a yellow shirt, and singing the song "Little Me" written for her by her other teacher, Fu Lin, as she walked through the audience.
In 1988, also on the spring evening, the tall Mao Amin also took the stage and sang the famous work "Miss". Like Su Hong, Mao Amin was also a student of Gu Jianfen.
Judging from the popularity she received at that time, Su Hong was no less than Mao Amin, but then the development of the two people underwent major changes. With one successful song after another, Mao Amin gradually stood firm in the position of the big sister in the mainland music scene, and although Su Hong later sang well-known songs such as "I Want to Sing More" and "March 3", and later appeared on the Spring Festival Gala, her influence has been much smaller than that year.
This may also have something to do with the small state of Su Hong's body, because there are many condolence performances in the ACFTU Cultural and Labor Troupe, sometimes four or five times a day, Su Hong's body is gradually a bit overwhelmed, and at that time, every year had to rest for a few months. Later, Su Hong strengthened her physical exercise and gradually recovered her health.
