Wang Yaoqing was born in 1881 and is a famous Danjiao actor in Peking Opera. He came from a Liyuan family, his father was the famous Kunqu Danjiao actor Wang Xuanyun, and his mother was the daughter of the famous Lao Dan Hao Lantian. His younger brother Wang Fengqing, who is also a Peking Opera actor, is an old student of the Wang (Guifen) faction
Wang Yaoqing began to learn art at the age of 9, learning Qingyi from Tian Baolin, and later studied Wudan in the Sanqing class, and studied under Yu Chongfugui. At the age of 12, he worshiped Xie Shuangshou as a teacher, and also learned Qingyi and Daoma Dan opera, and also learned from Zhang Zhiquan, Du Dieyun and others, and his literary and martial arts skills were very solid.
After the collapse of the voice change period, although he did not act on stage, he was still diligent and tireless, and once asked Chen Delin, Shi Xiaofu and other famous masters for advice. Shi Xiaofu was one of the thirteen best in Tongguang, and at that time, he attached great importance to Wang Yaoqing and helped Wang Yaoqing correct his body and correct his singing voice.
When he returned to his voice, his skills had improved greatly, and he had already become one of the famous people. After Shi Xiaofu's death, he made up Shi Xiaofu's position and often performed for Empress Dowager Cixi in the palace. Therefore, he often co-starred with Tan Xinpei and Yang Xiaolou, and was deeply respected by Tan Xinpei, and later entered the Tongqing class and Tan Xinpei for long-term cooperation.
Tan Xinpei and Wang Yaoqing's co-starring "Fenhe Bay", "South Heavenly Gate", "Shepherd's Pen", "Jinshui Bridge", "Zhu Curtain Village" and so on are famous. Wang Yaoqing also creatively integrated the performances of Qingyi, Huadan and Daomadan to form a line of "flower shirts".
Later, he also selected his own class to perform, rearranging or compiling a large number of plays such as "Colorful Public Opinion", "Thirteen Sisters", "Pipa Edge", "Fushou Mirror", "Mu Tianwang", "Xun Guanniang", "Jin Mengguan", "Mulan Congjun", "Wanli Yuan" and so on.
In these plays, he changed the pattern of the traditional Peking Opera repertoire, forming a unique "Wang Pai" art. At that time, people called him and Tan Xinpei "Liyuan Tangwu".
Wang Yaoqing is good at integrating many characteristics of life into opera, for example, when he sang in the palace, he dissolved many of the characteristics of the palace in plays such as "Yanmen Guan", "Shilang Visiting Mother", "Mei Yu Match", "Dadeng Hall", "Zhu Curtain Village" and other plays, and then created them artistically, becoming a very distinctive representative repertoire of the "Wang Sect".
Wang Yaoqing's performances are eclectic, breaking the boundaries of the industry, integrating the performances of Qingyi, Daomadan, BoumenDan, Huadan and Kundan, broadening the number of Peking Opera Danxing performances. His singing voice is bright and strong, and he is good at innovating, especially "Sippi".
His recitation is also particularly outstanding, and the "wind stirring snow" that combines Beijing and rhyme is very charming. His work makes good use of footwork and water sleeves. Because he is both good at both culture and martial arts, he is also very skilled in relying on his skills.
He played a series of female figures, from the Qing Palace noblewomen in the "flag costume play" to the little girls in the village, all of which were vivid and popular. At the age of 46, his voice "collapsed", so he bid farewell to the stage and concentrated on the cultivation of post-opera learning.
A large number of actors are from his disciples, such as the four famous dans of Peking Opera - Cheng Yanqiu, Mei Lanfang, Shang Xiaoyun, and Gou Huisheng, all of whom are his disciples. Because he was profound in art and had many disciples in the opera world, his peers jokingly called him the "Master of the Tongtian Sect".
