Whenever there are visitors from Gaowu Village, Liu Weinan will always go to the zhai gate to greet them and take them to the village under the ginkgo tree. There, it is the best place to overlook the whole of Gaowu Village.

"We Gao Wu is very beautiful, but her beauty has a deeper connotation." Referring to Gaowu Village, Liu Weinan spoke quickly, "Last week, the Central Civilization Office began to announce the candidate list of the sixth national civilized villages and towns, and Gaowu Village was on the list. However, in our village, there are still a large number of people who can't even write the word 'civilization', let alone explain the meaning of these two words in their own words. ”
He paused for a moment, smiled heartily, and revealed his white teeth: "Then do you know where the 'civilization' of Gaowu Village is embodied?" ”
A rejuvenated village
Liu Weinan, a native of Hunan, is a staff member of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. He laughed and said that his association with Guizhou was "a beautiful encounter."
In the summer of 2017, Liu Weinan went to the Central Primary School of Jiangjiabang Township to teach. Every evening, people from the surrounding villages return from terraced work, go to the Drum Tower to raise a pond fire, and gather together to sing. Listening to the emotions flowing in the song, he was deeply moved.
In addition to the "beauty" that touched Liu Weinan, there was also the local poverty and backwardness. He and several teachers went to visit the house, and there were not enough stools, so the host turned over the bamboo basket containing the vegetables and beckoned him to sit.
In 2018, the first secretary of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade stationed in Congjiang County was rotated, and Liu Weinan recalled the melodious singing and kind smile in the mountains of Guizhou and immediately signed up. "I want to take this group of simple people and live a better life."
In April, when Beijing was still warm and cold, Liu Weinan hurriedly packed his bags, flew from Beijing to Guiyang, took a high-speed train to Congjiang, transferred a long-distance bus to Guping Township, and then took a hitchhiker to this village called "Gaowu".

Geographically more than 2,000 kilometers, Liu Weinan felt as if he were riding a time shuttle, and the scene in front of him shocked him: every family was mixed with people and animals, and the toilet was a small shed randomly built next to the house, covered by broken wooden planks or dirty old plastic bags.
The first three nights of his stay in Gaowu Village, when it rained overnight, Liu Weinan was wrapped in a thick futon and drenched for three nights. He couldn't help but sigh: "The villagers' houses must be repaired immediately!" ”
How to build bricks, how to repair toilets, how to change tiles, Liu Weinan encouraged villagers to learn little by little, mixing pulp, bricks that can build bricks. Villagers made concerted efforts in the renovation of houses, and a total of 105 houses with wind and rain leaks, 6 households implemented the transformation of dangerous houses, 110 households built toilets and toilets, 116 households changed kitchens and stoves, and 71 households were rectified.
"They worked like family to repair houses, and they worked feverishly to build a new village for themselves." Liu Weinan said.
Poetry with feeling
Liu Weinan is a liberal arts student who loves ancient poetry, from Tao Yuanming of Wei and Jin to Wang Mojie of the Tang Dynasty, from "Returning to the Garden and Tianju" to "Mountain Residence Qiujiao", all hidden in the depths of his memory.
However, stripped of the idealistic pastoral imagination, Liu Weinan had to face the reality of "bone feeling" - the real countryside behind the romantic narrative has not yet faded the "dirty and messy" coat.
After a night rain, Liu Weinan went out for a morning run, and the muddy water on the road flowed freely with cow dung and garbage. He was stunned: "I don't dare to get off my feet for a while." ”
The next day, Liu Weinan decided to "wash his face" for the village. He picked up a shovel to shovel cow dung along the way, and then led party members and cadres of the village branch and the two committees to wash the road and organize students to pull a net to pick up garbage and clear the river.

After cleaning up the village, Liu Weinan decided to correct the villagers' living habits. He bought a batch of hangers and distributed them door to door. He instructed the team members: "Visit the villagers, first check that their clothes are hung up." ”
Next, Liu Weinan began to distribute garbage cans and garbage bags, followed by brooms, dustpans, mops, rags... Every time he walked into a villager's home, he had to use his hands to twist a mop or rag to get wet.
"The person in charge of collecting and transporting garbage in Gaowu Village has changed three times, and the health fee has risen from the initial 15 yuan to 25 yuan." Liu Weinan said that the organization of the meeting let the not diligent hygienists "get out of class", and even spontaneously took out more money to let the hygienists go to the door once a day to collect and transport garbage.

Villagers have a higher pursuit of the quality of life and the decoration of the environment. What was once a mud pond has become a lotus pond surrounded by fences, and the former cow street has become a wide and clean cement road, with wooden fences surrounding the farm yard, and green lawns paving the front and back of the house. "It was all designed and done by the villagers themselves." Liu Weinan said proudly.
Watching every household rise up in the smoke of cooking, and several white birds flying around the forest, Liu Weinan asked with a smile: "This scene should be what the poem says: 'The mountain qi is good day and night, and the birds are returning'." ”
Hope for vigorous growth

Two years ago, a little girl timidly asked Liu Weinan, "Can you borrow your desk?" After receiving the answer, the little girl crouched down on the flower bed in front of the village committee office and wrote her homework.
So Liu Weinan went door to door to send desks and chairs. The little girl who had written her homework on the flower bed, placed the new table and chair at home, carefully wiped it again, hung the bag in the corner of the desk, spread out the homework book, and did not start writing immediately, but sat happily on her cheeks for half a day, "I feel that she finally has her own space." ”

Since 2018, Liu Weinan has organized more than a dozen students with excellent results to study in Beijing every summer, taking them on a tour of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and visiting the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
There are no children who have left the village, and the summer vacation life is equally colorful. Liu Weinan invited teachers from the Hangzhou Normal University society to the village to teach the children singing, dancing, martial arts and other courses. And local Miao singers, lusheng dance masters, embroidery girls, etc., also came to give cultural lessons to the children.
