Under the pen of the post-90s illustrator Wang Xiaoyi (Hu Onion and Garlic), a young man and woman in "Guan Ju" are in two large blue bowls, looking at each other from a distance. "Guan Ju" tells the story of men who love and pursue women, and their inner anxiety is in love with each other. Therefore, when Wang Xiaoyi painted, he chose two utensils to express the man's one-way admiration, and the woman's vessel was poured into the man's vessel. "My intention is to express an open ending in this poem: maybe I love her, and I have a little affection for me in my heart." 」 Wang Xiaoyi said.
In addition to "Guan Ju", Wang Xiaoyi has painted a total of 160 paintings with the theme of "Poetry Classics and National Style" in the past two years, with a simple and elegant painting style and freehand writing. Wang Xiaoyi said: "The Book of Poetry is the unquestionable essence of traditional Chinese culture, it is a miniature world in itself, and it is perfectly in line with the scene and emotion creation that I want to express. ”
Another feature of her paintings is that the villains in the paintings have no faces. Wang Xiaoyi explained that when she was doing her homework, the other parts had been drawn, but she did not know how to outline her face. Her teacher simply said that she should not paint a face, no face, but hid the emotions of the characters, just in response to the restrained and implicit tone of the ancient style.

Distinguishing herself from other paintings with the theme of the Book of Poetry, Wang Xiaoyi combines classical Chinese landscapes with a variety of traditional Chinese vessels when interpreting the story to create an original illustration style, "Bowl Mountain Painting".
"Bowl" refers to a kind of pot-like and slightly small vessel made of ceramic, hard stone or metal, in Wang Xiaoyi's painting, "bowl" is enlarged into a "bowl mountain", mountains, rivers, flowers, trees, architectural figures are equally reduced into it, although the size is reduced but full of details, it is very delicate and meaningful. In Wang Xiaoyi's view, "Bowl Mountain" is similar to the bonsai that ancient Chinese literati like to enjoy, and contains a kind of interest pursued by ancient Chinese literati that "knots are in the human realm, and there is no car and horse noise".
When painting specifically, she will first carefully understand the content of the poem word by word, then determine the emotional tone of expression, and then complete a painting in the order of drawing a sketch, drawing a line draft, coloring, and carving details, and it usually takes 3 to 5 days to complete a painting. Usually, when writing, Wang Xiaoyi has already "made up his mind". In her view, the landscape in the "bowl" and the characters living in the "bowl" are not only responsible for "beauty", but have rich emotions:
"For example, "Peach Dream" is about congratulating the newlyweds, I use the wine as a bowl, one end of the red line is loaded with the wedding procession, and the other end is filled with fine wine; "Zun Da Lu" tells the story of the bitter retention between lovers, and I choose the image of breaking the mirror; "July" is about the labor and hardship of the peasant uncle throughout the year, and this poem is complex, like a long volume of life. I chose to use multi-treasure boxes and jewelry boxes to carry. ”

Influenced by her parents, Wang Xiaoyi loved to draw and watch costume dramas since she was a child, and naturally applied for art colleges in college. Although she is a design major, she has always insisted on creating out of love. Qiu Ying of the Ming Dynasty was one of her favorite painters, and in the process of seeing more and practicing more, she slowly formed her own "ancient style" painting style.
In addition to watching traditional literary works such as "Liaozhai Zhiyi" and "Book of Poetry", Wang Xiaoyi will also draw inspiration from daily life. In life, Wang Xiaoyi likes animals and plants, and loves to go out and get close to nature. In her opinion, every tree and stone in life can provide inspiration for her.
Wang Xiaoyi is also a "foodie", which can be seen from the flavorful screen name she gave herself , "Hu Onion Foraging Garlic". The name comes from the article "The Food Endowment and Order of the Qiran Hall" that she had read by accident. "Then the husband will stop arguing, dispel greed, and swallow the high court and the biscuit, helpless, and call out the onions and garlic." This passage describing the disciple's eating picture is extremely vivid, and she chose the most graphic sentence as her screen name. She also put her love of eating into the series of works of "Painted Poetry Classic", and replaced "Bowl Mountain" with pots, bowls, scoops, pots, spoons, which are guys who eat.

It is precisely because of this creative experience that Wang Xiaoyi also has a more thorough understanding of the scenes and emotions depicted in the Book of Poetry. Wang Xiaoyi said that after completing this series of works, she really studied each poem, and only then did she understand the delicacy of people's feelings and the beauty of the writing thousands of years ago, which is admirable and worth remembering for a long time. In the "Book of Poetry" Guofeng chapter, Wang Xiaoyi's favorite poem is "Ge Sheng", in which she believes that "winter night, summer day, after a hundred years old, returned to his room" in just a few words to express the deep affection and the sadness of losing the love of a lifetime, "I think the "Book of Poetry" is like a bridge between us and the ancients, and it is a beautiful cultural treasure. ”
