Hubei Baoshen Expressway starts from Baokang County, The province, connects with the Baoyi Expressway, and ends in Yangri Town, Shennongjia Forest District, with a total construction mileage of 42.924 kilometers, 27 bridges, 11 tunnels, and a bridge-tunnel ratio of 85.24%.

Located in Baokang County, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, the Quzhiwan Tunnel, which was completed on the same day, is a two-way four-lane split tunnel with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The tunnel has a total of 10 pedestrian passages, 9 lanes and 9 emergency stop belts, with a total length of about 6.8 kilometers, which is also the longest tunnel project of the baoshen expressway.

Hu Cai, chief engineer of the Baoshen Expressway Project Department of the China Railway Bridge Bureau, introduced that the Quzhiwan Tunnel belongs to the geomorphological area of the medium and low mountain canyon of tectonic erosion, and the natural ground elevation of the tunnel crossing section is between 690-1240 meters, of which the burial depth of the section is more than 300 meters, and the maximum burial depth is about 550 meters. The tunnel entrance is relatively steep, the geological conditions are more complex, and there are bad geology such as fault fracture zone and soft rock deformation, there are more caves, and the weak surrounding rock accounts for more than 50%, which is very easy to collapse.

To this end, the project department selects different excavation methods according to different surrounding rocks, strengthens construction surveys, conducts special research on ventilation, power supply and drainage of long tunnels, allocates advanced operating equipment, strengthens monitoring and advanced geological forecasting to ensure construction safety, and is equipped with lean and efficient project teams and teams that can recruit good warriors, etc., focusing on optimizing the utilization of cave slag, and "turning waste into treasure" the discarded slag with better surrounding rock grade in the tunnel, protecting the ecological environment.

Baoshen Expressway is a key project for precision poverty alleviation in Hubei Province and the only fast track to enter and exit shennongjia forest area. After the completion of the line, it will improve the layout of the expressway network in Hubei Province, open up the Shennongjia external fast channel, and be the only fast channel in and out of the Shennongjia forest area, and then achieve the goal of "county-to-county expressway".
