The women in "Lotus Pond" have no names, and their appearance is not described word by word throughout, not even their surnames, only the word "woman" is used instead, and the reader cannot read the words about the appearance of women. But all this does not prevent them from presenting to the reader the beauty, like the blooming lotus flowers in Baiyangdian, swaying and colorful, no flower can match it, and the floral fragrance is also unique.

At the beginning of the story, the woman weaves the table, somewhat absent-minded. "The moon rises... The woman sat in the courtyard, her fingers wrapped around her silky and slender reeds..." "She sat like she was sitting on a white snow, and like sitting on a white cloud. She sometimes looks at Yodori, and Yodori is also a silver and white world..." She was waiting for her husband who had not returned. When the husband came home, he began a conversation with the woman. The conversation was short and flat, and nothing special seemed special. I heard that her husband was going to participate in the War of Resistance, and the woman's words were not much, only 5 short sentences:

"You're always positive."

"If you go, I won't stop you, what will happen to the family?"

"Just understand the difficulties at home."

"Do you have anything to tell me?"

"What else?"

Her words were slightly resentful and reproachful, and meaningful. Each sentence is just right to show her subtle and thousands of psychological changes, as well as her kindness, cuteness, tolerance, forbearance, bravery, and strength. The aquatic instructions were both serious and noble, but the women all agreed to it "um, um", only two simple syllables, and the character of traditional Chinese women jumped on the paper. "'Don't let the enemy's traitors catch them alive, but fight with them if they are caught.'" This was the most important sentence, and the woman agreed to him with tears. In order to defend their hometown, young men in Baiyangdian voluntarily went to the front line of the anti-Japanese resistance. The "left-behind women" of the young people who left their hometowns for the war of resistance embarked on the road of finding a husband, but accidentally participated in an ambush battle. At the end of the battle, they realized something:

"We don't have guns, so if we have guns, we won't run to lotus ponds, and we'll fight with devils in dayan!"

The women, who used to sit in their yards, learned to shoot in the fall of that year. In winter, when catching fish in the ice, they climbed on the ice bed like meteors one by one, guarding back and forth. When the enemy surrounded and suppressed the hundred acres of reed ponds, they cooperated with the soldiers and soldiers to fight and entered the sea of reeds. "Lotus Flower Dian" depicts the life of the anti-Japanese struggle in the Baiyangdian area and can be seen as a war novel. However, in the novel, readers cannot see the cruelty and horror of flesh and blood, swords and swords, but from time to time they can smell the fragrance of lotus flowers and touch the lingering love and patriotic sentiments of Chinese sons and daughters during the War of Resistance. Sun Li erased the strong smell of gun smoke given by the times, bringing readers a different kind of beauty that other war novels lack. As he said in the "Preface to the Anthology": "Beauty is by no means an abstract thing, nor is it an isolated thing, it must profoundly reflect reality and clearly express the author's thoughts and feelings, beauty can be produced, can it have power." ”

On the coordinate system composed of home and country, they found their own coordinates and formed the brightest and most stylish landscape of Baiyangdian. The history of the character development of "Lotus Flower Dian" is the history of the awakening, progress and growth of these new women. They are both ordinary laborers and warriors, as well as heroes of the times.
