On the afternoon of March 28, the performance art "Zhao Bandi's Little Nest" was unveiled in Hall 5 of the Wuhan Art Museum, as a public education activity for the exhibition "Beyond Words : Art and Healing", which was open to the public and interacted with the audience until June 15.
Zhao Bandi, born in Beijing in 1966, now lives and works in Beijing, and his creations involve performance, painting, video, fashion, film, and social intervention. In the early years, Zhao Bandi engaged in painting creation, and attracted attention in the style of oil painting in the "classical period". Since the late 1990s, Zhao Bandi has become known to the public for a series of artistic activities related to "pandas", becoming a controversial but eye-catching contemporary artist.
The reporter walked into the exhibition hall, and the most impressive thing was the aroma emitted by the bamboo leaves, giving people a sense of relaxation in nature. As the guests entered the area, one by one, they picked up their wine glasses and talked to each other, and the scene turned into a small party.
Why do you want to do such a performance art as "Zhao Bandi's Little Nest"? How is this different from finding a place in our lives to chat? Curator Du Xiyun answered a reporter's question and said that Zhao Bandi's past art was related to pandas, this time there was no panda, but there were bamboo, bamboo leaves and pandas, because of the new crown epidemic, Zhao Bandi drifted overseas for half a year, and only returned to China last year, feeling deeply about the epidemic. Zhao Bandi believes that art is a way of sympathy and relief. In an aesthetic way, he created an atmosphere, built a surreal "small nest" - "the rest of the desert island"-like shacks, hammocks, lawns, open to the guests after the epidemic, welcome everyone to come to sit and go. Its function depends on the way and state of each person who comes to the "nest".
"Zhao Bandi's Little Nest" was previously unveiled at the Shanghai Hao Art Museum, attracting many audiences, and many parties have been held in the small nest, and the participants' expressions are rich and different. In many parties, it was used by participants as a swaddling, shelter, confessional room, consultation desk, debate hall... The nest is open to uncontrollable, accidental, sudden, contradictory, embarrassing, etc., and adapts to unpredictable changes and respects the unpredictable facts.
Zhao Bandi said that he will plan to stay in Wuhan for three months and look forward to meeting more stories of Wuhan people in the "small nest".
