In 1952, he joined the China Democratic League and served as a member of the Second Central Committee of the China Democratic League and a member of the Standing Committee of the Third Central Committee. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1978. From February 1978 to 1979, he was the vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. On March 30, 1979, Tong Dizhou died of illness, and his scientific spirit inspired future generations to continue on the road of scientific research.
