Lin Bin, deputy general manager and editor-in-chief of straits publishing group, pointed out in his speech at the launch ceremony that the publication of this book is a concrete measure to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of speeches on the Taiwan issue and is of great significance to the construction of an academic system and discourse system for the study of Taiwan history with Chinese characteristics.

The General History of Taiwan was planned and initiated by Minnan Normal University, edited by Professor Chen Zhiping of Xiamen University, and published by Fujian People's Publishing House. The book was written and published over a period of seven years and is the result of a concerted effort.

Lin Bin said at the launch ceremony that General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed at the 40th anniversary of the publication of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots" that Taiwan is a part of China, compatriots on both sides of the strait are Chinese, and the natural feelings and national identity of blood thicker than water and watching out for each other cannot be changed by anyone and any force. A history of Taiwan is the history of the Chinese people painstakingly developing and building this treasure island, and it is also the history of the Chinese nation's heroic and unyielding resistance to foreign aggression. The compilers of the General History of Taiwan completely abandoned the "Taiwan independence" view of history, and the whole book established the Chinese view of Chinese history that is part of China's history.

Lin Bin also said that the "General History of Taiwan" has fully absorbed the latest achievements of the academic circles on Taiwan's history and culture on both sides of the strait in recent years, provided the academic circles with many brand-new historical materials and documents, detailed the development and changes of Taiwan since ancient times, conducted detailed discussions on many issues that have not been studied or studied deeply by previous generations at different times, and correctly explained the views on Taiwan's history, thus forming a general history of Taiwan with the longest time span, the most comprehensive coverage, and the largest length so far. Historical facts show the spread and development of Chinese civilization in Taiwan, and earnestly demonstrate the proposition that "Taiwan has been an inalienable part of China's territory since ancient times." It has greatly advanced the study of Taiwan's history and is of great academic significance.

Lin Bin pointed out that this book is also the first general historical work on Taiwan's development from ancient times to modern times that scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have worked together and jointly written, and is an important measure to "intensify cultural exchanges and fulfill the work in the hearts of the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots," embodies the firm conviction of the Chinese of the two sides of the strait in jointly opposing "Taiwan independence," and is of very important practical significance to promoting cross-strait relations and cross-strait cooperation and exchanges at present.
