Zhang Yuguang's freehand works of Chinese paintings

Zhang Yuguang (1886-1968) was a modern painter and art educator. The character crane Cangtou, Zhai name Ye Ou Zhai, Zhejiang Shaoxing people. He is a member of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, a librarian of the Shanghai Municipal Museum of Culture and History, a member of the China Artists Association and a director of the Shanghai Branch, and a painter of the Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting. In 1904, he painted a photographic set in Shanghai Huamei Pharmacy, and in the same year, he cooperated with the Peking Opera innovator Xia Yuerun to first design and use the set in the "New Stage", changing the traditional stage appearance of Peking Opera and becoming an early stage artist in China.

In 1905, he went to Ningbo Tozhitang as a teacher of Chinese painting, returned to Shanghai in 1907 as a drawing teacher at the China Youth Association Academy, worked as a stage set painter on the Shanghai New Stage in 1908, and published cartoons in newspapers such as Minhu Bao, Minhu Bao, and Minli Bao from 1909 to 1911, including yuan shikai's satirical works "Yuan Shikai Riding a Wooden Horse" and "Rice Barrel", which had a wide impact. It was one of the first cartoonists in China to publish political satire in newspapers. He has also illustrated children's books.

From 1914 to 1919, he was a professor at Shanghai Meizhuan and participated in the establishment of the Shanghai Mali Craft Factory, which developed and produced painting pigments. In 1920, he studied Western painting from the legal person, and in 1926, he served as the director of fine arts in the Star Film Company, a professor of Xinhua Art College and Shanghai Art College, and until 1928, he was appointed as the vice president of Xinhua Art College. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he went to the rear area, prepared for hardships and never stopped painting, and held painting exhibitions in Chongqing, Chengdu, Kunming and other places. In the second episode of Nan Huaijin's "Seven Days of Southern Zen", Mr. Nan Huaijin mentioned that Zhang Yuguang was born with yin and yang eyes. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he helped Nan Huaijin tide over the crisis. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zhang Yuguang was hired as a painter at the Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting.

Zhang Yuguang ruled both Chinese and Western paintings throughout his life, engaged in the creation and teaching of Western paintings in his early years, and painted many Chinese paintings in his later years. The works are widely sourced, the painting style is close to Ren Yi, and can integrate Chinese and Western painting methods, the composition is novel, the color is bright and gorgeous, it is interesting, and it is also quite influential abroad, and his works are collected in the French National Museum and the Berlin Art Academy in Germany. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a director of the Shanghai Branch of the Artists Association, and a librarian of the Shanghai Municipal Museum of Culture and History. His works include "Huangshan Yunhai Map" and "Peacock Diagram" (In Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy). He published two volumes of "Nie Guang Painting Collection" (1935).
