From July 30 to 31, 2021, cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall's fourth season of "Music ∞" (Fun Infinity) series, the healing music drama "Like a Song", brought three performances to the audience and friends.
Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall holds the "Music ∞ (Music Infinity)" series of concerts every year, with innovation and cross-border as the main purpose, encouraging cross-border performance forms that integrate with music, boosting the creativity and practice of artists, and exploring the endless possibilities of musical innovation.
Composed by writer/director/composer Qu Yi and produced by Hou Yue, the performance specially invited musician An Laining, installation artist and organist Russ, "Architecture and Body" design consultant Jaksa Nikodijevic, live band "BIT16+" and other guests to help, integrating meditation, poetry, body language, live band, multimedia and other art forms, bringing a new audiovisual enjoyment to everyone.
Immersive stage scenes:
Music is fluid architecture, and architecture is solidified music
Different from traditional concerts, "Like a Song" specially tailored the performance space for the B2 space of the concert hall in order to create an immersive atmosphere, "moving" the stage to the audience, extending from the hall to the outside of the hall, and through the rich body language of the performers, the music, drama and emotions can flow freely and change in the space.
The audience's immersive experience tour has been opened from the entrance channel, entering the once familiar B2 music cube audience waiting area, and has entered the new media installation "The Door of Sound and Light Synesthesia", accompanied by the live performance of the electronic organ Bach's "Prelude to the Hymn" BWV690, you can feel the colorful two worlds inside and outside the arch.
Immersive "Theme" Premiere:
Healing poems praising "peace" and "great love"
Inside the theater, a part of the audience sits around the center stage and sits on the ground on the futons around it. Accompanied by the slow narration of the singer "Chen Hongyu" in the line, the actors gradually pushed the plot to a climax through poetry and body language and the live band BIT16+ through poetry and body language, and gradually pushed the plot to a climax in the warm and healing singing of the specially invited musician An Laining.
The live actors express their inner contradictions and emotions through rich interpretations, sometimes shallow chanting, sometimes emotional outbursts, sometimes silent meditation, sometimes warm as songs... Under the light of "Like a Song" with a fantasy temperament and full of idealism, it tells the story of young music poets and independent singer-songwriters who use the way of walking and singing to explore the inner yearning for "truth, goodness and beauty" in the post-epidemic era.
Interactive New Media Art Installations:
A new connection of music, senses, and vision
This concert replaces the traditional spatial architecture and stage aesthetics with new media vision as the main visual presentation. This concert features organ performance, harpsichord, and ancient piano performance, and the three Baroque instruments appear on stage for the first time in China.
Towards the end of the performance, led by the actors, the audience holds the art installation "Floating Whale Chant" symbolizing the waves and whales: the plastic ocean forms a huge wave floating above the audience, and the balloon represents alice, the world's loneliest whale, Alice, and everyone greets the waves, and finally brings Alice to the wider sky.
"Go south, keep going, don't look back"; "I'm here, I've been, never gone far"; these two core lines, the former symbolizes pursuit, the latter symbolizes great love.
