This morning, Wang Gang, deputy secretary of the municipal party committee and mayor, met with Ruan Guoqin, the widow of the martyr Wang Wei, a "guardian of the sea and air," asked her about her and her family's work and life, and called on the party members and cadres and masses of the whole city to draw strength from the advanced deeds of the revolutionary martyrs, vigorously carry forward the great revolutionary spirit, unite their efforts, continue to struggle, and speed up the development of Huzhou's high-quality catch-up and surpass.
Before his death, Wang Wei was a huzhou pilot of a certain unit of the Chinese Naval Aviation Corps. On April 1, 2001, Wang Wei piloted the J-8II fighter number 81192, and while performing the task of tracking and monitoring the US reconnaissance aircraft, in order to defend the territorial airspace of the motherland, Wang Wei was hit by a US warplane and forced to parachute into the sea, and died heroically at the age of 33. On April 24 of the same year, the Central Military Commission awarded Wang Wei the honorary title of "Guardian of the Sea and Air" and the First Class Heroic Model Medal, the Navy Party Committee approved him as a revolutionary martyr, and the League Central Committee and the All-China Youth Federation posthumously awarded him the "Chinese Youth May Fourth Medal". In September 2019, Wang Wei was selected into the list of "The Most Beautiful Strivers".
During the meeting, Wang Gang said affectionately that Wang Wei sacrificed his young life to defend China's national sovereignty and security, that he is a great hero of the people of the whole country and a great hero of the people of Huzhou, and that the motherland will never forget and the people will never forget. He urged relevant departments to care for and take care of the families of martyrs in their daily lives, listen to their voices and demands, have both temperature and strength, effectively solve practical difficulties in their lives, and implement the care and care of the party and the government. Wang Gang called on the majority of party members and cadres in the city to carry forward the great revolutionary spirit and make greater contributions to promoting the development of huzhou's high-quality catch-up and overtaking and building a green sample of common prosperity.
Ruan Guoqin said that thanks to the care and concern of the people in his hometown, he will continue to take good care of his family, tell Wang Wei's story well, and do something for more military dependents and martyrs and for the society.
After the meeting, Ruan Guoqin came to the Huzhou Martyrs' Cemetery and donated some relics of the martyr Wang Wei.
