Sources told the media that Jesse Lingard turned down a new contract for United as he wanted to secure his first-team prospects at Old Trafford.

Jesse Lingard has entered the final year of his contract and has been given new terms extending his term at the club. However, the England international has turned down an initial invitation from United to play regularly before deciding on his future.

If no agreement can be reached on a new contract with Manchester United, Jesse Lingard, who graduated from the Academy and made more than 200 appearances for Manchester United, could leave as a free agent at the end of the season and could negotiate with clubs outside England starting next January.

In an effort to retain his place with the England national team in Southgate ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the 28-year-old is determined to find normal football.
