French media such as Le Figaro played up the "Chinese invasion", advocated "World War III", and made a fuss about "Taiwan independence"! The Chinese Embassy refuted it

Recently, French media such as Le Figaro published a number of reports and commentaries on the Taiwan issue, vigorously exaggerating the "Chinese invasion," openly advocating the "Third World War," and making an eye out for the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. In particular, the article published by journalist Sébastien Falletti in Le Figaro on October 19, 2021 spread a large number of lies and fallacies, seriously misleading the public. We must positively refute and restore the truth.

First, by fabricating the narrative of democracy against autocracy, they vainly attempt to cover up the essence of the Taiwan issue's general national righteousness.

The Figaro article referred to Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen as a "defender of democracy in Taiwan," arguing that China's reunification means "the triumph of the authoritarian model and military forces over democracy" and "the fiasco of the Western model of freedom." In fact, the "Taiwan independence" forces headed by Tsai Ing-wen do not represent democracy, nor does Taiwan represent democracy. After the DPP came to power, it vigorously engaged in the "green terror" of party homogeneity, corruption, and false public welfare on the island, and also bought arms from the United States at a sky-high market price of 2-3 times the market price, so as to enrich the wealth of the Taiwan people and transfer it abroad. Many "Taiwan independence" elements in high positions were "Taiwan traitors" who colluded with the colonists during the Japanese occupation period. Their pursuit of "Taiwan independence" is by no means for the benefit of the Taiwan people, but out of the selfish interests of individuals and political parties, and serves the strategy of the United States and Japan to contain China's development and interrupt the process of rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The Taiwan-related issue is by no means a question of democracy and autocracy, but a question of "Taiwan independence" elements forgetting their ancestors, betraying the nation, colluding with foreign enemies, and splitting the country.

Second, by wantonly distorting history and reality, it attempts to deconstruct the fact that China has sovereignty over Taiwan.

Taiwan has been Chinese territory since ancient times. As early as 230 AD, during the Roman Empire, sun Wu's regime during the Three Kingdoms period of China sent troops through Taiwan, and since then, the Chinese governments of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties have sent troops to Taiwan or set up administrative offices in Taiwan. That is to say, Taiwan's subordination to China is older than france's history. In his article, Farletti reversed black and white and confused right and wrong, saying that the island of Taiwan "once inhabited by the indigenous people of Polynesia" was "a Colony of Portugal and the Netherlands, which was conquered by the Qing Dynasty in the late 17th century", which is the same as the fallacy of "de-Sinicization" by the DPP authorities in Taiwan. The historical truth is that the Portuguese and Dutch colonists took advantage of the war in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties in China to invade and occupy Taiwan, the Ming Dynasty general Zheng successfully recovered Taiwan in 1661, and the Qing Dynasty achieved unified jurisdiction over Taiwan in 1683. Faretti also repeatedly used the portuguese colonist's name "Formosa" to refer to Taiwan, openly showing his eyes to Western colonial acts and summoning the soul of the colonists.

Speaking of China's restoration of sovereignty over Taiwan after World War II, Farletti also made a nonsense remark that Taiwan's "fate reversed with the defeat of the Kuomintang Chiang Kai-shek, who established the Republic of China to counter Mao Zedong's regime." As is well known, the Republic of China was established by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1911, and after World War II, China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan in accordance with the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation. Farletti also said that the renewed tension in cross-strait relations in 2013 was completely blind talk. At that time, cross-strait exchanges and cooperation were smoothly advancing on the basis of the one-China principle and the "1992 Consensus," and the leaders of the two sides of the strait met in Singapore in 2015. In this regard, Farletti is inferior to Frédéric Lemaître, a reporter for Le Monde, who at least told some truth in the report: "China and Taiwan maintained dialogue until Tsai Ing-wen came to power in 2016." The official reason for the suspension of dialogue was Tsai's refusal to recognize the '1992 Consensus,' which the Kuomintang regime had recognized, as well as the one-China principle. Farletti is obviously taking advantage of the French people's ignorance of the historical longitude and latitude of the Taiwan issue to deceive the reader without a bottom line.

Third, by rendering the "Third World War", it is a vain attempt to deny the Chinese government's justice to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The method to resolve the Taiwan issue is entirely China's internal affair. Any sovereign State has the right to use all necessary means, including military means, to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese Government has always advocated a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan issue. Chinese leaders have stressed on many occasions that realizing the reunification of the motherland by peaceful means is in the best interests of the Chinese nation as a whole, including Taiwan compatriots. However, if the "Taiwan independence" forces on the island are obstinate and collude with foreign hostile forces, causing the country to face the danger of splitting, or the possibility of peaceful reunification is completely lost, the Chinese Government will have to resort to non-peaceful means to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is completely just.

What is staggering is that the Le Figaro newspaper published Faretti's article, openly exaggerating the "Third World War" and openly shouting "deterrence of China" in the editorial. These arguments attempt to obliterate the fact that the Taiwan issue belongs to China's internal affairs, cover up the fact that the Tsai Ing-wen authorities' openly and explicit "Taiwan independence" words and deeds are precisely the source of tension in the Taiwan Strait, and achieve their ulterior motives by maliciously hyping up the "China threat theory": First, they intimidate and mislead the will of the Western people and incite anti-China sentiment; second, they cooperate with US hawks and anti-China forces and advocate confrontation with China or even war; third, they clamor within Europe to develop substantive relations with Taiwan and undermine Sino-European relations. This kind of "war peddler" rhetoric goes against the tide of history and runs counter to the peaceful aspirations of the peoples of all countries in the world.

China must be reunified, and it must be reunified. China's realization of complete reunification is most conducive to regional peace and stability. The separatist acts of "Taiwan independence" and the interference of foreign forces in the Taiwan issue are the real threats to peace. We would like to remind once again certain French media personnel to abide by professional ethics, respect facts, and not to act as "sounding boards" and accomplices of "Taiwan independence" elements and anti-China forces.
