A pot of nearly 100-year-old orchids has experienced the changes of the world and the test of wind, frost, rain and snow, and finally returned to its hometown yangzhou with vitality. The owner of this plate of orchids is Mr. Zhu Ziqing, a famous modern Chinese essayist. Originally, this potted orchid was planted by Mr. Zhu Ziqing in the old house of the Wang family in Wenzhou (Zhu Ziqing's former residence), but now it has a legendary and moving story that spans centuries.

In 1923, Zhu Ziqing came to Wenzhou Middle School to teach, during which he rented the "Wang Family Old House". Mr. Zhu has loved orchids all his life, he likes the fragrance of orchids, clear and not turbid; he likes orchids in a pot in the room, overflowing with fragrance. He personally took a pot of orchids and placed them indoors. Whenever the sky is clear, he will occasionally move the orchid pot under the eaves, so that the orchids are bathed in sober air, which is also regarded as a precious time of natural leisure under busy educational and writing conditions.

He wrote famous prose titles such as "Moon Hazy, Bird Hazy, Curtain Roll Begonia Red" and "Green", which were later included in "Traces of Wenzhou".

"The cloud shadow of Yanshan Mountain, the tide of Ouhai, the bell Lingyu Xiu, the peach and plum are lush." Huai Li Pavilion is reciting diligently, and Zhongshan Jingshe sits in the spring breeze. Yingqi Kuangguo, as a holy enlightenment. The lyrics of the school song of Wenzhou Middle School, especially "Yingqi Kuangguo, As a Holy Enlightenment", have been praised among the graduates for many years as a school motto and have become the common motto of everyone.

Mr. Zhu was good friends with Mr. Ma Mengrong and my grandfather, and he inscribed on Mr. Ma's painting "Curtain rolls begonia red, traces of pond shadow green." "In 1924, he left Wenzhou and gave this pot of orchids to my grandfather as a souvenir. My grandfather said that he would keep it for Mr. Zhu for the time being, and hoped that you would come back one day and continue the orchid friendship.

After that, the two of us often exchanged letters.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Wenzhou Middle School, my father wrote an article entitled "Remembering Mr. Zhu Ziqing". It tells the story of his childhood, deeply felt Zhu Ziqing's noble sentiments and full of economics, highlighting Zhu Ziqing's noble character of "loving literature and attaching importance to education"!

Less than eight years after Mr. Zhu's departure, the Songhu War of Resistance broke out, and five years later, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression officially began, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou fell one after another, and due to the bombing of the Qiantang River Bridge and the stubborn resistance of the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians on the south bank of the Qiantang River, eastern Zhejiang and southern Zhejiang became the forefront of the War of Resistance, preventing the Japanese army from reaching south for two years, and strongly supporting the War of Resistance. Wenzhou, on the other hand, became a port city that had not yet fallen, but it was still bombarded by Japanese soldiers.

In order to avoid the war, my father also came to Lishui, where he worked and studied half time, and also learned to repair cars in the Zhejiang workshop and prepare for the college entrance examination. Coincidentally, Zhejiang University was also partially relocated to Lishui, and my father was admitted to the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Zhejiang University in Lishui with excellent results.

On April 19, 1941, wenzhou fell for the first time, and in order to continue to attack southward, the Japanese army opened the Zhejiang-Gansu Railway, attacked on both sides of the northeast, and then besieged Changsha, attacked the anti-Japanese troops of the Third Theater, and forcibly recruited thousands of labor porters from Wenzhou to transport strategic materials. At that time, my grandfather was working in the Qingming Chemical Factory in Wenzhou, specializing in the production of the famous local wax paper. Before the fall of Wenzhou, he said to the factory director Wang Wenchuan, you still quickly lead the whole factory staff to the countryside to hide, stay in the green mountains, and are not afraid of no firewood. I am in my forties, so I am the leftover in the factory, and the Japanese have no way to take me.

He was wrong, and since he could not force a sufficient number of porters, my grandfather also pulled to fill the numbers. Thousands of porters, carrying heavy burdens every day, along the Ou River, at that time, the Jinwen Highway had not yet been built, only along the river path, one day, near the Yongjia Bridge, my grandfather was overworked, he made a few complaints, and was hit by several Japanese soldiers with three or eight large cover guns, and passed out. The Japanese soldiers thought he was dead, pushed him down the rice paddies, and fled.

A day later, my grandfather unexpectedly woke up and found himself alive, but his right foot had been broken, and he could only struggle to scream for help due to the desire to survive. A farmer happened to pass by, took him to a nearby temple for healing, and finally recovered his life. Because of his lameness, he could not do any heavy work, technical work, nor could he go out to buy mountain linen skins for making wax paper, and could only work in the communication room of the chemical factory, and the "Wang Guangyuan" trading house run by Wang Wenchuan was also razed to the ground after being bombed by Japanese aircraft in 1940. Since then, the family has been in difficulty. My grandfather had to rely on the valuable goods of the pawn family to survive, and on several occasions, the pawn shop wanted to sell the pot of orchids planted by Zhu Ziqing, but my grandfather refused to live or die, so that the orchids could be preserved.

Coincidentally, in 1944, my father graduated from the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Jinan University (the first and second years of the university were in Longquan Branch of Zhejiang University, and the third and fourth grades were in Jinan University), and was assigned to teach physics at Wenzhou Middle School.

In 1952, my father was transferred to teach physics at the Zhijiang campus, and he once again entrusted the task of protecting orchids to my grandfather.

After arriving at the Zhijiang campus, he studied the history of Chinese science and technology in depth and published more than a hundred papers in his lifetime. Among them, papers such as "History of Chinese Optics" and "A Brief History of Chinese Physics" emphatically pointed out that China's ancient research achievements in optics and magnetism have attracted worldwide attention, and have been praised by joseph Needham and Xi Wen, experts in the history of science and technology in the world. At present, China's scientific research achievements in optics and magnetism are still at the forefront of the world.

My cousin Wang Changchun, who lived in the old house of the Wang family for the first half of his life, took the initiative to take on the responsibility of caring for orchids after my grandfather and father. In 1965, after graduating from high school, he became a substitute teacher, teaching Chinese, and through his own continuous efforts, became a Chinese teacher at Wenzhou No. 2 Middle School and later a senior teacher. After retirement, he also became a volunteer propagandist in Zhu Ziqing's former residence. Because of his good cultural skills and strong language expression ability, he has won countless praise from television stations, newspaper reporters, and descendants of Zhu Ziqing's family. This, of course, is also an afterthought.

Wang Changchun especially likes the pot of orchids planted by Zhu Ziqing, starting from understanding things, has been carefully cared for, although the years have flowed for a long time, the flowers are still blooming, attracting many tourists to often stop and watch. On the 120th anniversary of Zhu Ziqing's birth, Zhu Ziqing's grandson Zhu Xiaotao and Yangzhou Zhu Ziqing Museum Han Feng personally came to Wenzhou, took half of the plates of flowers and transplanted them to the "Zhu Ziqing Former Residence" in Yangzhou.

According to calculations, this flower is also 98 years old this year, which can pay tribute to Mr. Zhu Ziqing's spirit in heaven, and even more to the reverence of future generations for Mr. Zhu's proud style. It is really "The small garden incense path has left guests, and the nine-fold zilan is fragrant", "Man Daolin knows that there are few encounters, and he looks back several times in search of fangs".
