October 2021 is the 12th "Respect for the Elderly Month" in China. In order to express the concern for the elderly group and further create a social atmosphere of respecting the elderly and loving the elderly and helping the elderly, recently, the Social Work Service Station of Zhanqian Street of Guangzhou Yuesui Social Work Office and the Liwan District Charity Action Volunteer Work Promotion Center jointly launched a visit to the elderly with the theme of "Serving the Elderly for the Elderly".
Under the organization and leadership of the social workers, a total of 30 people, including volunteers from Goodwill, the elderly volunteers of the "Elderly Help elderly service team" and enthusiastic resident volunteers, participated in the visit. Prior to the visit, the social workers also provided visiting skills training for the elderly volunteers of the "Elderly Help elderly service team" under their jurisdiction, so that they could further improve their visiting skills, hoping to help them better serve the elderly living alone, widows and marginal elders, and actively carry forward the spirit of "serving the elderly".
At the event, social workers and volunteers visited 50 families living alone and widowed in the district. During the visit, the volunteers had a cordial conversation with the visiting object, learned about the physical health of the elderly, asked them whether they had difficulties in life, and sent them condolences and warm greetings, so that they could feel the care of the community and the warmth of society. Many elderly people said that they were very happy that social workers and volunteers came to visit and thanked the social workers and volunteers for their concern. Uncle Tan, who lives on the 9th floor of the stair house, said gratefully: "My family has two months left to install the elevator, this time the social workers and volunteers have to take the stairs, the materials are heavy and rich, it is really hard for everyone!" ”
It is understood that the love materials for this activity are provided by the Charity Fund of Liuhua Community in Front of the Station Street and the relevant partners. Among them, there are egg noodles, cereals and other food provided by the Liuhua Community Charity Fund in Zhanqian Street, as well as daily necessities such as dish soap, toothpaste and roll paper provided by the Guangzhou Liwan District Charity Action Volunteer Work Promotion Center. While sending care and materials to the lonely, widowed and marginalized elderly in the community, this activity also actively mobilized community volunteers, resident volunteers and elderly volunteers to participate in the visit, creating an atmosphere of friendship, harmony and mutual assistance in the jurisdiction.
