My legendary teacher ShaAnzhi

Text/Labor Stop

(1) Legendary teacher Sha Anzhi

June 29, 2019 is the 90th birthday of my mentor, Professor Shaanzhi. She was born 90 years ago in the war-torn Soviet Union, and her parents were excellent party members. She was sent to the Soviet Third International Orphanage nine months after her birth, and her parents needed to return home for work, which was 27 years.

The Soviet Union was in its most difficult period: there was no electricity or water every day, temperatures were tens of degrees below zero, and Soviet citizens were given only 200 grams of black bread per day. Children in the orphanage were given preferential treatment and received only 300 grams.

At the age of four, a chance change her destiny in the Soviet Union. One day, on the path where she used to wait for her parents to return, she saw an officer in a military uniform and a saber, whom she decided was her father. She cried "Daddy" and pounced. Looking at this Chinese girl with big eyes, the officer hugged her and later adopted her. The officer was an old Bolshevik whose wife was of Polish descent who became the adoptive parents of The Shaan and treated her well. The adoptive mother, who was once a princess of the French royal family, was later exiled to Siberia. Little Scha'an spoke fluent Russian, while her adoptive mother and grandmother usually communicated with her in French. Professor Sha has a talent for languages since she was a child, and the environment of life has created her even more. She has a strong interest in poetry, music and dance, and often goes to church to listen to singing and learning to recite. At a poetry recital, she recited poems written using her own personal experience. It was this time that she saw her applauded by a burly soldier in marshal's uniform, and that soldier was Stalin. During her life in the Soviet Union, Shaanzhi participated in the Great Patriotic War, when she was only 15 years old and a young girl. She transported ammunition for soldiers on the front lines and escorted wounded soldiers to field hospitals.

After the war, she studied at the Oriental University in Moscow, where she was a classmate of Mao Anying, Mao Anqing and Sun Weishi. Due to her talent and the influence of her adoptive parents, she was awarded the highest honor of "Russian recitation performer of the First Class in the Soviet Union".

In 1955, she returned to her home country, where she missed day and night, when she was 27 years old. After returning to China, her father changed her name in the Soviet Union to Sha'anzhi, which means "if it comes, it will be safe". Soon she was assigned to teach at Zhejiang University. At Zhejiang University, she worked for 9 years, and in 1963, she was transferred to Hunan Normal University as an expert to teach Russian while doing translation work. I happened to be admitted to the school that year and had the honor of becoming a student of Professor Shaanzhi.

Professor Shaanzhi is fluent in four Chinese languages: Russian, French, English and Chinese. In the years since she returned to China, she has worked tirelessly, successively translating Mao Zedong's poems and Lao She's novels into Russian for publication; she has edited and published the Russian-Chinese Idiom Dictionary, the Russian-Chinese Translation Dictionary, and the Public Relations Russian; at the age of nearly 80, she has completed the Russian translation and publication of Tang Poems under the condition of almost complete blindness.

Professor Sha loves life, is diligent, kind-hearted and helpful. After returning to China, she studied Chinese medicine with her teacher, studied Chinese medicine acupuncture assiduously, and used the acupuncture she learned to relieve the pain of many patients. She loves sword dancing, tai chi and swimming. Especially in swimming, she can be called a master, in the "Static DriftIng Race" held in Changsha City, she was over 80 years old and lay motionless on the water for more than 1 hour, so she won the title of "Quiet Drift King".

On November 18, 2016, Professor Sha won the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Russian Language Education in China" (15 people in China), and the award speech was:

They are outstanding representatives of the predecessors of Chinese Russian scholars, valuable assets of China's education circles, and their education, achievements and moral character are highly respected, and they are exemplary in the academic circles, and they are hereby commended to encourage future generations.

(2) Fangfang

Teacher Sha has two daughters, Lei Li and Lei Fang, and they are very good. Due to the influence of the family environment and the influence of their parents' genes, they have achieved success. Leili Zhang has a master's degree in Chinese and can speak fluent Russian. In the celebration of her mother's 80th birthday, a Russian friend gave a congratulatory speech, and Reilly acted as a simultaneous interpreter, which was very effective.

Professor Sha's youngest daughter, Fangfang, was admitted to Nanjing University to study English and American literature, and after graduation, she taught in the Department of Foreign Languages of Central South University, where she was a professor, and her teaching was very popular with students. In addition to teaching, she translated more than ten Works of British and American literature and other works, such as "Robinson Crusoe", "Tolerance", and "Theory of War".

I have an indissoluble relationship with her young daughter Fangfang, which begins in the summer of 1981, when Fangfang took the national unified college entrance examination in 1981, when she applied for science, regrettably she failed. She stays at home all day and doesn't go out, which is worrying. Teacher Sha told me that one night Fang Fang did not return all night until the next day. She told her mother that she hadn't gone anywhere, only spent the night lying on the black stone slopes of Yuelu Mountain near their house. Teacher Sha looked at me with tears in her eyes. It was the first time I had seen such a helpless look in her eyes. I knew she had something to say to me, but it was hard to say. I said if you don't mind, just entrust my daughter to me, and I suggested that she apply for a foreign language major, re-study for a year, and take the exam again next year. At that time, I was teaching at Yiyang County No. 5 Middle School, which was a rural middle school with a difficult environment and poor teaching conditions, but in order to improve the school's promotion rate, the principal of the school at that time specially opened a foreign language class, appointed me as the head of the foreign language class and foreign language teaching, and gave me 25-30 places every year to recruit foreign language candidates, and the two college entrance examinations from 1980 to 1981 achieved gratifying results. Teacher Sha hugged me tightly and said excitedly, "My daughter will be handed over to you!" ”

For the first time, Fang Fang left her parents and came to a strange place, starting her year of intense study and life. I was under a lot of pressure, how to explain it to the teacher if I lost again? Happily, Fang Fang is extremely smart, and she quickly adapted to the environment here and integrated into a group of simple, earthy classmates. Foreign language majors do not take mathematics, and several other subjects require strong memory and comprehension skills. Fang Fang is a strong point in this regard, the things she has learned are unforgettable, in addition to intense study, she also has a habit: that is, to put away the leftover bones and fish bones in plastic bags, and keep them to feed the wild dogs and wild cats outside.

After a year of hard work, she finally survived the college entrance examination, only to wait for the day when the admission line was announced. After a "long" wait, Hunan Provincial Radio and Television Station finally announced the admission lines for the liberal arts, sciences and foreign languages of that year, and announced the list of winners of each subject at the same time. When she heard the news that Zhang Leifang was tied for the first place in the province with a total score of 422 points and a foreign language score of 95 points, the teachers and students of the whole school were boiling! Fangfang's mother, my teacher Sha Anzhi, had to be hospitalized due to overexcited and heart attack.

Reading this thick stack of letters full of mothers' deep concern for their daughters, under the care of her sick father and sister, Fang Fang finally handed over a perfect answer sheet to the whole family.

(3) The story of Futuo

One summer evening, my wife and I took our grandson Raul to visit Teacher Sha, and the old man was very happy to see Raul for the first time. Her family's bobcats and dogs also circled around him, and Grandma Sha told Little Raul that the family dog had just laid two pups. She took him to the back hut to see the kennel, the puppy is very cute, especially the little dog named Futuo, Raul clamored for Grandma Sha to give him Futuo, And Grandma Sha immediately agreed and told him to take it after the full moon. After about a month or so, we forgot about it, but Raul remembered the promise that grandma had made to him. When we arrived at Teacher Sha's house, Grandma Sha told us that just a few days ago, a friend of hers brought her daughter to visit her, and the little girl took a fancy to Futuo at a glance and took it home. Raul listened and said to Grandma, "Grandma, your words don't count, you promised to give it to me." ”

Grandma Sha didn't say anything, she asked us to sit at home, and after about a few tens of minutes, she came back with the futuo and handed it to Raul. She told us that she had gone to the girl's house and persuaded the girl and promised that the next time the had another puppy, she would give her one.

The later story is that Grandma Sha really made the little girl get her wish.

(4) Embroidery on sacks

In people's imagination, Professor Sha's home furnishings must be very high-end and luxurious. But what you would never expect is that walking into her house, there seems to be nothing of value in the house except for a room full of books, an old piano, a Russian typewriter and a 135 camera on the desk, plus an old 100-year-old Amica watch she carries. But one thing that stands out is a beautiful carpet embroidered with Russian motifs on the floor and a Russian-style weave hanging on the wall. I once asked Professor Sha how much it cost to buy these two crafts, and she smiled and said to me, "I didn't spend a penny, I knit it myself out of sacks and wool from the rice factory." "It was incredible! She put the sacks together into a carpet and embroidered a beautiful pattern on them with wool, which took a lot of time and effort! This is embroidery on the sack, my legendary teacher, you are such a super master!

(5) Black cat warning

Just after class, the person in the communications room told me that the postman sent me a telegram asking me to sign for it. I hurried to the communication room and opened it to see that it was sent by Teacher Sha. The cable is 5 words "all is safe". I thought to myself, this old lady had sent a telegram to startle me, and I thought there was something else.

He has worked in a foreign country for more than twenty years. As I grew older, I wanted to find a work unit close to home, and one evening before the week, I went to visit Mr. Sha and told her my thoughts, and she was very happy to hear it, and told me that he had an acquaintance who was the secretary of a certain school, and then asked me to visit with her.

It was nearly dusk, and we cut a short path up a hill when a large black cat ran past us. Teacher Sha stopped and told me to stand still, and I saw her face the direction in which the black cat was running, and closed her eyes and said to herself. After about a few minutes, she called me over and told me that there is a custom in Russia that when you encounter a black cat, you must stop and chant a mantra to avoid the disaster. I thought it was funny after listening to it, it turns out that Russians still believe in such superstitions!

The next day, I took the shuttle back to my unit and luckily I sat next to the conductor in the front right row. When I was about to reach the final station, a middle-aged woman came up, carrying two thick cotton wools. The conductor was so kind as to give up her seat to the middle-aged woman and arranged for her to put two beds of cotton wool on the armrest in front of me and sit behind the driver herself. With two large beds of cotton wool in front of me, and my view was completely obscured, I helped her hold a bed of cotton wool. Suddenly there was a loud noise, followed by shards of glass coming at him like raindrops, and the driver braked urgently. It turned out that a hand-held tractor on the right slope lost control and hit the front of the bus, the front of the car was knocked out of shape, and the left side of the windshield in front of the driver cracked, and the right side was all broken. The hand tractor was smashed in two and the driver fell to the ground in a pool of blood. Fortunately, neither I nor the middle-aged woman were injured, and the bus driver was cut in a shard by glass. I was stunned and fixed on looking at the bed in front of me, covered with broken pieces of glass. Without it, the consequences would be unimaginable!

Maybe it was an accident, but I still want to thank my teacher for his silent prayer.

"Cats are spiritual animals, especially black cats....."

(f) Sugar jars

When I was a child, my family lived in the current Central South University Nonferrous Branch. The back mountain of The Yunlu Palace in Yuelu Mountain is very close to where I live, and in autumn my friends and I often climb up the mountain to pick hairy millet, plate millet, and a wild fruit called sugar jar to eat. The outside of the millet and the plate millet are wrapped in thornballs, and the sugar jar is a thorny fruit. If you are not careful, the small thorn will catch your hand.

The dormitory of the Normal University where Teacher Sha lives is also at the foot of the stone slope of Yuelu Mountain.

It was another autumn day, and we took our daughter to visit Professor Sha, who was very happy and let her sit next to her. She asked my daughter, "You're a picky eater, why are you so thin?" "We told her that our daughter loves snacks, doesn't like to eat, and doesn't sleep well at night. Professor Sha took my daughter's small hand and probed her pulse, and then said that there was a folk prescription that was beneficial to her. She said to use a wild sugar jar with honey and brew it. She told us to wait at home, said she would be back soon, and then went out. After about an hour, she returned, collected sugar jars from the mountains, and took me to the little miscellaneous house behind her. This is no ordinary miscellaneous house, there are dogs and cats, and a few black chickens and a box of bees are fed, which is simply a farm! She poured me a bottle of honey, then wrapped the can of sugar she had just picked, and wrapped ten sour dates by the way. She told me to boil these things together when I got home and put them on for another week to drink. I stroked Professor Sha's hands and saw that his hands were full of small thorns, and his eyes were suddenly moist.....

(vii) A brother fell from heaven

As the saying goes, "Good people have good rewards." "Teacher Sha has done so many good deeds in his life, even God has been touched. When she was 88 years old, God gave her a great gift: her brother who settled in the United States finally found her and flew from the United States to China with his whole family to recognize her. Teacher Sha herself did not know that she also had a brother who was a pilot in the United States, and the sky had eyes, and "a compatriot brother fell from the sky", which brought a strange surprise to this kind old man. The sisters and brothers recognized each other in China, hugged each other tightly, and burst into tears, a thousand words in it.

(viii) "My Dear Mother"

One autumn evening in 1963, I was alone in the classroom of the Department of Foreign Languages. I have been very interested in Russian songs since middle school, and I can't help but hum a few familiar Russian folk songs in the classroom. At this moment, I suddenly felt someone behind me listening and humming along with me. I turned around to see a middle-aged woman dressed as a chubby Russian woman with a kind smile, dressed in a dress. She sang with me in native Russian and a thick mezzo-soprano voice. The song I sang at the time was the Russian folk song "Comrades, Go Forward Courageously." She told me that the song had been written by a student of the Russian chemist Mendeleev, and that the workers and soldiers of St. Petersburg of the October Revolution of 1917 had sung the song to launch a general offensive against the Winter Palace.

She also said: "Three Sets of Cars" was originally titled "Stagecoach Rushing Forward" to show the tragic life of the coachman who was deeply bullied, singing a sad, desolate melody, but "Three Sets of Cars" is poetic, this poetic emotion is gripping, the snow is white, the meandering Volga River, the young coachman's song, quietly telling his heart. I was captivated by her vast knowledge, she was literally a living dictionary, and she could tell the context of the times for almost every Russian song I could sing. She told me to know the background of each song so that you can get into the scene and sing with your heart.

I was so lucky that when I first entered the university, I studied under the door of the high master. In the days that followed, I often went to her house to ask for advice. Later, I chose one of my favorite songs, "My Dear Mother", and every time I visited her, I had to sing this song because I was singing it to her with my heart, so she also liked to hear me sing this song.

During my work, a delegation from the Government of Ukraine visited our school. At the welcoming ceremony, I announced: The next show, solo, Russian folk song "My Dear Mother." A Ukrainian woman stood up and said, "No, this is a Ukrainian folk song, the work of Ukrainian composer Pu Maboroda." "Then she ran on stage and sang this Ukrainian folk song with me, and afterwards she said to me that you sang it so well! With tears in her eyes, full of affection, the Russian language is also very authentic. ”

I told her, "My teacher is an expert in Russian, and whenever I sing this song, I think of my mother and my mentor, and I sing for them with my heart." I love your country very much, Ukraine, and I would like to sing "My Dear Mother" with you next time in your country. ”

(ix) Childhood memories

A while ago, I went to visit Teacher Sha, and when I saw me, she hurried over with a crutch, and kept saying "Мой Хооший " (my baby), hugged me, and then said to me: "People are old, their eyes can't see, their ears can't hear, they have become wasters." "She still has a lot of things she wants to do, but she can't do it. Finally she told me that she had something she wanted me to help her with, and I gladly promised that as long as I could do it, I would do what you wanted.

She told me that during the days when she lived in her adoptive mother's house in the Soviet Union, she used to sing a nursery rhyme with her neighbor's friends. Now whenever I sing this song, I remember the days of my childhood. She wanted me to help her write down this song that accompanied her childhood. Looking at the old man's eyes, I gladly agreed to try it, so she began to sing while playing and reminiscing. She couldn't see with her eyes, pressed the wrong keys, couldn't hear her ears, and her fingers weren't flexible, so the songs she played were intermittent. After playing, she asked me, "Did you write it down?" I didn't squeak for half a day, and then said to her, "I'm sorry, Teacher Sha, I can't understand the lyrics you sang, and I can't remember the scores. It turned out that she was singing in French, and each bar was intermittently 4 beats 3 beats 2 beats, and she could not remember the score. In order not to disappoint her old man, I recorded all the songs she played and sang, and promised to ask my brother who studied music to help me record the score when I went back.
