Jiangsu is about to usher in a new round of high-speed rail construction tide.

According to the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee News Network, the Office of the Leading Group for the Study and Education of Party History of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee recently held a press conference on "I do practical things for the masses" - to create smart transportation to meet the travel needs of the masses.

At the press conference, Zhu Peide, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Railway Office, revealed that within this year, that is, in the next two months, Jiangsu will start construction of the Hefei to Shanghai section of the Shanghai-Yurong high-speed railway (North Yanjiang high-speed railway), as well as four railways such as the Tongsu-Jiayong Railway, the YantaiXi Changyi Railway, and the Jiangsu Section of the Hefei-Xinyi Railway.

The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) noted that 3 of the 4 new railways to be started are vertical railway corridors.

Among them, the Tongsu-Jia-Yong Railway and the Yantai-Xichangyi Railway, the former connecting the Jiangsu coastal areas with Suzhou and Ningbo, Zhejiang, the latter will open up the connection between Jiangsu Yancheng, Taizhou and Wuxi, Zhejiang Hangzhou, will change the current situation that there is no direct connection of high-speed rail in southern Jiangsu and central Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu, and are two key longitudinal cross-river channels.

There is also the Hefei-Xinyi Railway, which starts from Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, and passes north through Sihong County and Suqian City in Jiangsu Province, and will connect to the Shandong Peninsula after reaching Xinyi City.

This is an important railway channel connecting Hefei with the Qingdao metropolitan area, and it is also beneficial to Suqian City, Jiangsu Province, forming an urban high-speed rail pattern of "cross" crossing.

Of the four proposed high-speed railways, only one is east-west, that is, the Hefei-Shanghai section of the Shanghai-Yurong high-speed railway (North Yanjiang High-speed Railway), which will be another high-speed rail corridor between Nanjing and Shanghai. Compared with the existing Shanghai-Nanjing intercity and the South Yanjiang high-speed railway under construction, the North Yanjiang high-speed railway runs along the north bank of the Yangtze River, through Yangzhou, Taizhou and Nantong, and finally connects to Shanghai. This is also a channel to make up for the shortcomings of the high-speed rail on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu.

According to the surging news, in the early days of the "13th Five-Year Plan", Jiangsu's high-speed rail mileage once ranked fourteenth in the country, which is seriously inconsistent with the status of Jiangsu as a major economic province.

In the past five years, Jiangsu has built and opened a number of high-speed railways such as Xusu Huaiyan and Lianhuaiyang Town, and many prefecture-level cities such as Jiangsu Central Jiangsu and Northern Jiangsu have intensively entered the "high-speed rail era". According to Zhu Peide, Jiangsu's "13th Five-Year Plan" added 1356 kilometers of high-speed rail mileage, ranking among the top three in the country from high-speed rail "depressions".

The surging news noted that the opening year of the "14th Five-Year Plan" will be intensively built with four high-speed railways, which means that the construction of high-speed rail in Jiangsu will enter a new stage of further optimization and upgrading.
