There are not only the medical records of a generation of celebrities such as Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling, but also the first cases of difficult and serious diseases and rare cases in China and even the world.
At Union Hospital, the beginning of doctor training is not the prescribing or surgery that many people understand, but the writing of medical records. Medical records are poorly written and rarely become excellent physicians. Zhang Xiaoqian, the founder of Chinese gastroenterology, is extremely strict in the writing of medical records, "the content should be accurate and complete, the handwriting should be neat, and the important places should run through the doctor's thinking and analysis, and cannot be written into a flow account."
35 years ago, Zhang Shuyang started step by step as a resident doctor at Union Hospital until 2020, when she became the dean, and the case room was a place where she often came to look for answers. Zhang Shuyang's mentor Fang Ji was a famous Chinese medical scientist and medical educator, known for his serious and rigorous work style, which benefited from Zhang Xiaoqian's teachings.

In the early 1960s, a female patient suffered from a strange disease, a cold shock, many experts helpless, Zhang Xiaoqian consulted his own record of the past medical records, so as to accurately diagnose the patient's illness. This incident caused a sensation in the medical community at the time. Lang Jinghe, who studied under Lin Qiaozhi, the founder of China's obstetrics and gynecology, told us that in that year, a student only wrote a sentence more than others, "The forehead of a mother has beads of sweat the size of a bean", and the medical records were rated as excellent by Lin Qiaozhi, and others were unqualified. In Lin Qiaozhi's view, it is most important to consider from the patient's point of view.
There's a life-saving clue in the library that "doctors can't eat old books the most"
In 1971, the then vice president of The New York Times accompanied Kissinger on a secret visit to China, and he suddenly developed acute appendicitis and was sent to Union Hospital. Although the surgery was very successful, hematuria developed after the operation. Surgical expert Zeng Xianjiu went to the library all night to check foreign literature and finally found relevant clues. He resolutely removed the penicillin he was using, and after a day the patient's hematuria disappeared and he recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
