After the fall of Guangzhou in 1938, the Japanese army did not dare to enter the Ancestral Hall of the Deng Family, perhaps because they were afraid in their hearts, or perhaps they were in awe of this great hero. Deng Shichang's twenty-seven years of naval career, the number of times he returned home was only three times, deng Shichang dedicated the last good years to the country. Such a hero even the Japanese admired him, so the Japanese did not enter the Deng Family Ancestral Hall.
In order to commemorate the national hero Deng Shichang, in 1996, the state named an ocean-going ship Shichang, so that the name of the hero Deng Shichang was engraved on the ship, and also allowed the hero to often overlook the sea, and the modern navy, together with the blue sea and blue sky of the new century.
In 1894, when the Qing government was corrupt, Deng Shichang's performance in the Sino-Japanese Naval Battle impressed the Japanese army, at that time, although Deng Shichang's Zhiyuan ship was already scarred, Deng Shichang still fought bravely, driving this Zhiyuan ship directly towards the Japanese flagship Yoshino, and then unfortunately was hit by the Japanese shells fired by the Zhiyuan ship, causing the torpedo explosion and sinking of the Zhiyuan ship. Deng Shichang gave up survival and said, "I am determined to kill the enemy and serve the country, and now I die at sea. ”。 Deng Shichang and 250 officers and men sank into the sea together and martyred the country.
Deng Shichang gave up the opportunity to survive and died with the Zhiyuan ship. Patriotic feelings have also inspired countless future generations and allowed more people to resist Japan together. The Guangxu Emperor also personally wrote a letter for Deng Shichang, and the Guangxu Emperor rewarded the Deng family with a lot of pensions, and then used the pension to build the Deng family ancestral hall.
