In 2002, Li Qing received a carp, a black-tailed near-red bass found in a scientific expedition to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the Wuhan Academy of Sciences. After preliminary research, this fish has the characteristics of low protein requirements for farmed feed. Previously, the artificial culture of sturgeon has always been a problem: the feed protein content requirements are high, the breeding cost is high, the growth is slow; the water is not easy to survive, and the breeding efficiency is low.
Can we solve these problems by taking advantage of this characteristic of the black-tailed near-red carp? Li Qing experts and his team began more than a decade of research. Finally, it was found that the hybridization of the black-tailed near-red carp and the drifting egg-laying squid in the Danjiangkou Reservoir produced a new species that was very suitable for artificial breeding. This kind of carp solves the problem of "water death" of the great white knife, the cost of breeding feed is reduced by half, it is resistant to transportation and grows fast, it is disease resistant, and it does not need to use antibiotics in the breeding process, and it tastes better to eat. In 2013, the hybrid fish named "Pioneer No. 1" passed the national new variety approval and got its own "identity card".
"Our fry are three times more expensive than ordinary fry, and 10,000 fish cost 1,500 yuan. However, the yield is high, no medicine is needed, the survival rate of the water is high, the meat quality is good, and the comprehensive cost of one kilogram of fish farming is about 5 yuan, even if the fry is still good. Li Qing experts told reporters.
This new variety has been intensively promoted in the past 5 years.
