The forehead, crown, back, and shoulders of the forest wren are sandy brown with thick black-brown feathers, and the waist and tail cover feathers are gray-brown, and the feathers are not obvious. The wings are dark brown , with broad brownish-white margins on the wings , and the flight feathers are brownish white and narrow and inconspicuous. The tail feathers are dark brown, the outermost pair of tail feathers are all white except for the inner base, and the second pair of tail feathers on the outside has only white end spots. The eyes are dark brown, and the eyebrow lines, cheeks, and ear feathers are light brownish white. The chin and throat are white or yellowish-white, the sides of the throat are black-brown, the rest of the underparts are grayish-white, the thorax and flanks are black-brown longitudinal, the tail coverts are yellow-white, and the underwing coverts are gray-brown and olive-green.

The breeding season of the forest wren is from May to July. Nests usually nest in above-ground pits or in natural caves hidden by rocks or grass. The nest is located in the grass on the ground, mainly woven from the stems of the grass family, in the shape of a dish, with roe deer hair and other animal hairs on the inside, and the outer wall is covered with moss. The inner diameter of the nest is 6.5-7 cm, the outer diameter is 12.5-13 cm, the depth is 4 cm, and the height is 5.5 cm. Each clutch lays 4-5 eggs. The color of the eggs varies greatly, with pale off-white, greenish-white, ochre or pink, and is covered with brown or dark spots.
