
Shouguang big chicken is one of the excellent varieties in China, native to Shouguang City, Daotian Town Cijia, Lunjia area, so also known as Cilun chicken. Together with Guangdong Three Yellow Chicken, Shanghai Pudong Chicken and Anhui Gushi Chicken, it is called the four major breeding chickens and has been written into middle school biology textbooks.
Shouguang big chicken is a combination of meat and egg type. Black feathers, strong and beautiful, strong foraging power, hereditary stability, big red egg skin, fat and fragrant meat, for the well-known domestic poultry breeds at home and abroad.
Shouguang chicken is native to Daotian Township, Shouguang County, Shandong Province, and the best chickens raised in Cijia Village and Lunjia Village are also called Cilun Chicken. The chicken is characterized by its large size and large eggs. It is an excellent local chicken breed that uses both meat and eggs. According to a survey conducted by the Shandong Poultry Research Institute in 1978, the counties of Yidu, Changle, Weixian, Linbo, Zhucheng and other counties adjacent to the production area were relatively large, with a total of about 1 million raised in Changwei and nearly 200,000 in the key breeding bases of Shouguang chickens. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the production area has promoted about 4.9 million chicks and eggs to the province and beyond.

Shouguang County is located in the alluvial plain on the southern shore of Bohai Bay, with an average annual temperature of 12.5%. 4 °C, the annual precipitation is 630mm, the water irrigation conditions are better, the main crops are wheat, corn, sorghum, soybeans, millet, sweet potatoes and so on. This area is close to the seashore, with more fish, shrimp and shells, and chicken feed resources.
Shouguang chicken has a long history of formation, according to the "Shouguang County Chronicle" recorded: "Chickens are livestock than households, chicken eggs jia he county, the skin has a red and white difference,... The is the tallest and has a long crown and giant claws, which is a specialty of Yiyi. During the Northern Wei Dynasty in the sixth century AD (1449-1597), the eminent agricultural scientist Jia Sixun also wrote an account of the poultry industry in the region in the book "Qi Min Zhi Shu". During the Warring States period from 480 BC to 220 BC, the Zhou Li of the Emerging School headed by Zou Yan of the State of Qi recorded that "it is the kingdom of Kyushu ... Due East RiQingzhou... Its livestock should be chickens and dogs; its grain should be rice and wheat. "The former Qingzhou (now Shouguang, Yidu and other counties) was one of the Kyushu at that time. All counties in the Shouguang chicken production area are included, which shows that the poultry industry in the region has occupied an important position at that time. Shouguang chicken production area is located in the alluvial plain on the south shore of Bohai Bay, the unique natural ecological environment of this production area and the careful breeding of local people, thus forming Shouguang chicken.
