A tear or rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is a trauma common in basketball and is caused by torsional or overextensive violence of the knee joint that exceeds its intensity. It usually presents with swelling and pain in the knee joint and even subcutaneous bruising, with significant restriction of movement due to pain.
When we preliminarily determine whether there is an ANCL injury, we have a simple test called the "knee drawer test". Specific operation: the subject takes the supine position, flexes the hip 45 °, bends the knee 90 °, the examiner sits on the subject's feet, stabilizes the legs without shaking; the examiner places his hands behind the platform of his tibia to support his tibia, and then does a pull in the direction of the examiner. If there is no damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, the pulling platform will not move; pulling the tibia when the ligament is damaged will move forward, indicating that there is a tear or a break caused by relaxation.

X-rays of cruciate ligament injuries are invisible, and I recommend taking magnetic resonance imaging (MR) as soon as possible to further confirm the diagnosis. If the anterior cruciate ligament is torn more than two-thirds or completely ruptured, I recommend surgery as soon as possible. Less than two-thirds of the tears, you can first do some knee external fixation, the main purpose is to limit the activity of the ligament, generally require 6 weeks to 8 weeks of bed rest, and then do some targeted physical therapy and rehabilitation training later.

Here's a special reminder: if you have a torn anterior cruciate ligament and in the acute phase, remember! Never rub it or massage it. According to years of clinical experience, a general mild tear can be repaired by conservative treatment, but it can no longer do some strenuous exercise.
