A puzzling question: why Lee Chang-ho, the world's first go player, has not yet received an apprentice

Lee Chang-ho was the world's first Go player between 1996 and 2005, and this is indisputable. Since the first year of the 1988 World Go Championship, Lee Chang-ho has topped the list with 17 titles, and from this point of view, he is the well-deserved first person in the world chess world.

It is reasonable to say that although Li Changhao, who is now 46 years old, is still fighting in the chess world, after all, the peak period has long passed, and the results are naturally very general. Then at this time, he did not need to spend a lot of time and energy on the Go game, and he could completely cultivate his own concubine apprentices. But as far as I know, he has not yet taken disciples, why is this?

In South Korea, there are Cao Xuanxuan and Lee Chang-ho masters and apprentices, Lee Sedol and Shin Min-ho masters and apprentices; in Japan, the famous Kitani Dojo has trained five of the six super-first-class people, and the three masters of Setsukoshi Kensaku-Wu Qingyuan-Lin Haifeng are in the same vein; Nie Weiping, a big man in the Chinese chess circle, has brought Chang Hao, Gu Li, Tan Xiao and other masters, and Ma Xiaochun has also adopted Luo Xihe and Shao Weigang as apprentices. It should be said that the inheritance of the world Go community is still quite in place.

If Lee Chang-ho wants to take in disciples, there are three ways to do it. One is to receive disciples, just like he became a student of Cao Xuanxuan when he was a child, eating and living in the master's house. This route is more cumbersome, it is necessary to arrange a separate room (according to Lee Chang-ho's economic strength and living conditions, this is not difficult), and Mrs. Lee also needs to arrange the life of the children. This does not only involve the stone Buddha himself, but also the whole family.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chang-ho

Family is a private space, and if Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chang-ho don't like this way, then there is another way, that is, Lee Chang-ho goes to a certain dojo for regular coaching. As for teaching a few students, completely obey the stone Buddha's own wishes. You can play one or two games of chess in advance to understand your child's chess strength, and if there is no suitable student, you can also wait and see for a while.

The third idea is that Lee Chang-ho runs his own Go classroom or dojo. This also requires a lot of energy, and it is estimated that it is not within the scope of the stone Buddha's consideration. To add to this, there are many such teaching institutions held by professional chess players in China after retiring, and the more well-known ones are Nie Weiping Dojo, Ma Xiaochun Dojo, Kong Jie Go Classroom, Jiang Zhujiu Go Classroom, Qiu Jun Go Classroom, as if Qian Yuping also opened similar venues in Shanghai.

As I said above, if Lee Chang-ho wants to accept apprentices, chess skills, time and energy, venue and economic strength are not a problem, so what is the reason why he has not taken this step so far?

A puzzling question: why Lee Chang-ho, the world's first go player, has not yet received an apprentice

Cao Li's apprentice

There are three reasons for my personal analysis: First, Lee Chang-ho may only want to enjoy life at present, and in addition to playing chess, he does not want to be involved in extra tedious affairs. After all, he has been stumbling and climbing in the chess world for nearly 40 years, of which more than 30 years have been fully committed to Go, so it is completely understandable that he wants to take a break. A harmonious family, a chess game without pressure, and a wonderful world outside should be the three elements he enjoys in life. I think that for this, chess fans all over the world will support him and understand him.

Second, Lee Chang-ho's personality is introverted and not good at words, so he may feel uncomfortable with teaching. Teaching is also a complex science, not only the two masters and apprentices play chess, at least to re-explain, for the apprentice to point out the country. If you meet a student with high understanding, you can stop there; if you encounter someone who is not enlightened at the beginning, it is time-consuming, laborious and tongue-consuming. I remember when I was a child, one of my teachers used to say this in class: The bloody smell of my mouth came out, but there were still people who didn't understand, how could I be so stupid! In fact, it seems to me now that the student is not stupid, but that he is not here, and he has not listened to it at all.

Third, perhaps no seedlings have been found that make his heart move. We all know that teachers generally like students with particularly good grades, and if there are particularly outstanding students, I think Lee Chang-ho will also be moved. Perhaps there has been no Go prodigy he recognizes so far, so the stone Buddha can only wait silently.

Lee Chang-ho has not yet received an apprentice, which is definitely a question that makes the world chess world wonder. Chess fans, what do you think about this?
