Donggao Xinyue was born in the twelfth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1639) in Jiangzhai Village, Huangzhai Town, Pujiang County, Zhejiang Province. His common surname is Jiang, his name is Xingli, the character Xinyue, alias Donggao, Fengfeng Yeqiao Yue Daoist.

He is a legendary monk in the history of Hangzhou Yongfu Temple. In 1676, he crossed to Fuso in the east, spread the art of calligraphy and painting seal carving, Xingqin Dao, was an epoch-making important figure in the history of Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges, and was regarded by Japan as the ancestor of seal carving and guqin.

During his 19 years in Japan, he taught the art of the piano, and later his disciples compiled his scores into the famous Donggao Notation.

In these fresh and elegant tunes, you can see donggao's heart carrying the breeze to the bright moon, and you can feel the sadness of his white hair and sideburns that are difficult to return to his hometown.

Teacher Ge Rongli of Daguan Primary School began to learn donggao xinyue guqin in 2010, followed the inheritor teacher Zhang Yiwen to learn the performance of guqin, and made her own contribution to inheriting the art of Donggao Xinyue guqin.

Hangzhou held a guqin concert in 2000, and the works of Donggao Xinyue were performed on the spot; in 2016, the return of "Donggao Qin notation" was first held at Hangzhou Yongfu Temple, and more and more people understood and inherited the art of Donggao Xinyue Guqin, so that it burst out of new vitality in time, and established donggao Xinyue guqin art as the intangible cultural heritage of Hangzhou.
