Steel, cement, sand and gravel... Almost all infrastructure projects are inseparable from these raw materials, and the quality of raw materials also directly affects the quality of the project. Therefore, before the raw materials enter the construction site, there will be special personnel to test, and the indicators can only enter the site after they are qualified. Liu Yan, an experimenter from the Zhengcheng Testing Company of the Eighth Bureau of China Railway, is such a "gatekeeper".
Liu Yan's undergraduate major is chemical testing, after graduation, most of her classmates went into the laboratory, or to teach, only she chose the construction site.
"I chose to enter the engineering unit and have a lot to do with my husband." Liu Yan said. The husband is an "engineer", where the project is, the work place is. She wanted to see what the nature of her husband's work was, whether it was as hard as he said.
In 2016, Liu Yan entered the Second Company of China Railway Eighth Bureau and became an experimenter. In the past three years, she has participated in projects all over Henan, Anhui and Jiangxi, and is more than 1,000 kilometers away from her hometown. In addition to being far away from home, she also has to adapt to the 24-hour on-the-job, year-round work rhythm of the project. Only then did she realize the "tiredness" of the engineers.
Although hard work, Liu Yan gave full play to her personal value in her work and put her university professional knowledge into practice. As a tester in the project lab, her job is to test every batch of raw materials during construction.
"Taking cement as an example, there are more than twenty testing indicators." Liu Yan introduced that the detection of cement includes two aspects: physical detection and chemical detection. Physical testing is to control the strength, the detection cycle is about a week; chemical testing is to control sulfate, chloride ions and other indicators to prevent the steel bar from being corroded, and it takes 28 days to complete. "From the beginning to the end of construction, each batch of raw materials must be tested before entering the site." She said, "This is a check on the quality of the project from the source. ”
In each project's lab, Liu Yan is often the only female experimenter. Being far from home, in harsh conditions, and often having to move more than a dozen kilograms of construction materials, all increase the difficulty of women in such work. However, Liu Yan not only persevered, but also gained professional recognition with the care and patience unique to women.
In June 2019, Zhengcheng Testing Company faced a review of the highway Grade B qualification renewal, and Liu Yan, who was on maternity leave, took the initiative to participate in the review. She led the technical team to verify the basic conditions, actual technical capabilities, standardization of test and testing work, accuracy of typical reports and records, and effectiveness of system operation, and a total of 193 test parameters in 16 categories. After more than 50 days of intense preparations, Zhengcheng Testing Company successfully passed the comprehensive Grade B test and testing institution of highway engineering.
In August 2020, in the expansion of the company's qualification identification, Liu Yan and the team completed the collection, collation and reporting of the review data in 3 months. The company's detection parameters increased from 416 in 53 categories in 2018 to 636 in 90 categories, reaching a record high with a 100% expansion pass rate.
2020 Sichuan Provincial Skills Competition "China Railway Eighth Bureau Cup" Experimenter Skill Competition First Place, China Railway Eighth Bureau Technical Pacesetter, Labor Model... Honors followed, but Liu Yan did not stop. In the future, she hopes to expand the dimension of testing through continuous learning, and do a good job as the first "gatekeeper" of engineering quality.
