In January 2018, Chen Lei attended the 2018 Guardians Program Conference hosted by Tencent as the CFO of China UnionPay.

Chen Lei has his own unique views on payment and clearing from an international perspective, he believes that China's payment industry in a good market environment to maintain the international level of development, digital payment in the world's leading level, open cooperation is the key to payment innovation, should encourage open cooperation business model; data is an important production factor of payment innovation, to build a safe, orderly, open data application and cooperation mechanism; in underdeveloped areas, but also pay attention to market potential, promote the development of nationalized payment.
