Zhang Guomin did not say much, but when it came to work, he began to gush endlessly: "Our station is a provincial key station, responsible for sending water reports to the Guiyang Municipal Bureau and transmitting them to flood prevention departments at all levels, and it is our duty to provide high-quality hydrological services for flood control departments in a timely manner." From laying the first water ruler, measuring the first flow, issuing the first report, to the preparation of the various surveys and reports before the flood, he carefully explained to him; how to measure the flood quickly, timely and accurately, how to compile the data, how to draw the line, he also carefully taught it to the new colleagues without reservation.

Zhang Guomin is not only a good hand in work and business, but also meticulous and strict in his work attitude. It is also very "true" to the situation that occurs in the calculation, and it is pointed out immediately and without mercy. Once, when measuring the flow, a colleague recorded the time one minute late, but was seriously criticized by Zhang Guomin, who also recorded the incident. Hydrological work, perhaps for some, is just a job, a means of making a living. However, for some people, hydrological work is not only a profession, but also a career that needs to be fought for, and even dedicated to the completion of a lifetime. Zhang Guomin belongs to the latter.

In 1987, 29-year-old Zhang Guomin came to work at his first hydrological station with simple luggage. Since then, he has taken root in the mountains and begun an extraordinary hydrological life. Whether it is backed by desolate mountains or bustling neon cities, Zhang Guomin always silently accompanies the quiet and sometimes tumbling river at this time. This guard was a whole 28 years, day after day, year after year, where he observed the rainfall of the water level, measured the water situation, and monitored the water quality. Faithfully fulfill the duties of the eyes and ears of flood prevention and flood control. He made the hydrological station his home, where he dedicated all his youth to the work he was doing.

It is said that the hydrologists must "endure loneliness and keep loneliness", and people and rivers are companions, and they do not look at each other. The scene of sticking to his post alone on holidays is already commonplace for Zhang Guomin. Over the years, he has spent almost every spring festival, traditional festival and national statutory holiday at the hydrological station. Today, his children have also settled in the provincial capital. On holidays, Zhang Guomin also rarely went to the provincial city to reunite with his wife and children, and he had already regarded the hydrological station as his home. He loved it so much that he got up early every morning to keep the inside and outside of the station clean and tidy, so that every time the superior leader came to the hydrological station, he couldn't help but admire the environment of the station.

The main work of the hydrological station workers is the observation of hydrological elements such as precipitation, evaporation, water level, flow, sediment, temperature and so on. Repeating the same operation over the years, accumulating a series of hydrological data, providing basic support data for the construction of water conservancy projects and road and bridge projects, and supporting the safety of the people with a series of boring but accurate figures. Such a repetitive test homework for many years requires a strong sense of responsibility, and Zhang Guomin is such a hydrologist. He often repeatedly told the station staff: the data must be true and reliable, and must not be fraudulent.

On July 16, 2014, the entire basin of Guiyang City experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, and the YuliangHe Hefeng Hydrological Station had the largest torrential rain flood since the establishment of the station in 2006. With many years of experience in station observation, Zhang Guomin had a vigilance in his heart, and he had a premonition that a major flood was coming, and immediately called the bureau to report the situation. The bureau inspectors immediately organized a trip to the Hefeng Hydrological Station, and Zhang Guomin and the inspectors began to test the homework together. Lightning flashed and thundered in the sky, and the storm wet the clothes of every tester, and Zhang Guomin accidentally broke his leg. But the rain is the trumpet, the flood is the command, he faced the wind and rain and continued to test. After an hour of continuous testing, the peak of the flood was finally measured, the peak water level: 911.39 meters, the peak flow: 465 cubic meters per second. He used his fearless spirit to write the style of the hydrologist in the wind and rain.

Zhang Guomin and his wife met each other on campus and worked in Bijie Agricultural Bureau, Bijie Mukong Hydrological Station, Hongjiadu Hydrological Station, Yachi River Hydrology Station, Dongtou Hydrological Station, and from 2006 to Hefeng Hydrological Station (Dongtou Hydrological Station relocated to Hefeng Hydrological Station) until retirement. According to Zhang Guomin's wife's recollection, during the working years at the Bijie Mukong Hydrological Station, the Hongjiadu Hydrological Station, and the Dongtou Hydrological Station, the production and living environment were so arduous that ordinary people could not imagine that the long-term lonely and lonely resident life had created the tenacious will to work and the arduous and simple life style of the grass-roots hydrological workers. Although Zhang Station Manager's profession is not right, he has gradually become an independent station manager from an ordinary employee with his diligent and studious spirit.

During the flood season in 2019, when his wife and son were hospitalized and sick, Zhang Guomin could not take care of his sick family due to his work, and devoted himself to the rush to test the torrential rain and flood.

For 28 years, he has been on the front line, and wherever it is most dangerous, there will be him infested. The annual flood season is also the busiest period for hydrologists, and it is also the most dangerous time. When the heavy rain came, the wind blew, others took shelter in the house, but he sent rain information in the wind and rain; when the flood came, he disregarded his own safety, broke through the flood blockade, risked his life to rush to measure all kinds of hydrological data, reported the water situation to the flood control center, and protected the safety of people's lives and property.
