James Gunn on Martin Scorsese's critique of Marvel movies: He wants to get eyeballs

But it is not denied that this is actually the truth

Recently, James Gunn participated in the "Happy. Sad. Asked on the Confused.podcast what he thought of the criticism of the famous director Martin Scorsese two years ago, who in 2019 accused "Marvel movies can't be called movies," Gunn said the comments were "very cynical."

"I just feel like he's constantly standing up against Marvel, and that's the only way he can get his films into media attention, and that feels cynical." "He created in the shadow of Marvel movies, so he wanted to use that to gain eyeballs for some of the works that didn't get the expected attention," Gunn said.

But Gunn agrees with scorsese in some of his views. "A lot of what he said is true, and now there are a lot of popcorn blockbusters that lack depth and no soul, and they're actually flashy." Gunn said he's met a lot of film directors who constantly wanted to create a blockbuster feel, only to "cater to the whims of various studios," which made him feel sick.

Although Scorsese's rhetoric is slightly radical, he is still one of the most respected directors in the film industry, and Marvel Studios is quite large today, so the back and forth between the two is actually a "master trick".

Gunn's next superhero movie, Task Force X: The Full Crew, will be released this weekend. Meanwhile, Scorsese is working on the next movie project for Apple TV Plus, "Flower Moon Killer," which has recently been confirmed as Brandon Fisher.
