On October 3, The Giants Geneva 10KM took off. In the women's division, Kalkidan Gezahegne from Bahrain won the championship with a time of 29 minutes 38 seconds (pace 2 minutes 57 seconds) and broke the world record in the women's 10 km (mixed race).
At this year's Olympic Games, Kalkadan Gerzakhne played well, attacking Hassan in the final of the women's 10,000 meters and finally winning an Olympic silver medal.
The Giants Geneva is the 30-year-old's fourth road race. For the first five kilometres, Linkar Cardin Gerzakhne spent 14 minutes and 46 seconds (pace 2 minutes and 57 seconds), while the two Kenyans behind him, Colliphine Chespol and Agnes Tirop, trailed five seconds behind. Agnes Tirop just set a world record for 10 km in a pure women's race last month with a time of 30 minutes and 01 seconds, and his strength should not be underestimated.
In the second half of the race, Kalkadan Ghazahne's pace remained well, without giving the two Kenyan players any chances. He crossed the finish line first with 29 minutes and 38 seconds, which was 5 seconds faster than the 2017 world record for women's 10 km (mixed races), Agnes Tirop finished second with a time of 30 minutes and 20 seconds, and Celliphine Chespol finished third with 31 minutes and 25 seconds.
After the match, Bahrain Kardhan Ghazahnye said she was very lucky to be able to break the world record. She was a little sick these days, but she was in good shape on the day of the race and eventually broke the world record.
Born in Ethiopia on May 8, 1991, Gezhakhne was naturalized by Bahrain as an Asian player. In a 10,000m race on May 8, 2021, Gezhakhne ran a time of 29:50.77, becoming the second runner in Asia to reach the 30-point mark, the first with China's Wang Junxia.
In the men's race, Kenya's Kibiwott Kandie won the championship with 26 minutes 51 seconds (pace 2 minutes 41 seconds), second place was Felix Kipkoech with a time of 26 minutes 57 seconds, and third place was Boniface Kibiwott with a time of 27 minutes and 13 seconds. It is worth mentioning that Kibiwott Kandie is the current world record holder for the men's half horse.
