On the orders of the Central Military Commission, the former 67th Army of the Jinan Military Region arrived in the Wenshan area of Yunnan Province in March 1985 to assemble. After a short period of combat training, on May 18, 1985, it began to take over the defense mission of the 14th Army (A) (1st Army) Laoshan Area, and was completed on the 29th. Defense was transferred to the 14th Army (C) (47th Army) on 30 April 1986.
After two seasons of rain and drought, it held its position for 347 days. During the operation, the commanders and fighters of the whole army carried forward the glorious traditions of our army's war years, stubbornly and tenaciously fought continuously, went forward and followed one after another, and smashed the enemy's 4 regimental and battalion-sized attacks, 35 company-level counterattacks, and more than a thousand sneak attacks and raids below the platoon level According to the intentions and orders of the superiors, it successfully carried out 4 sortie operations against the 19 high grounds occupied by the enemy; organized key shelling and 19 outbound reconnaissance, capture, and sabotage; annihilated more than 8,400 enemy personnel, including 4,390 wounded and 10 captured by the enemy; annihilated 6 enemy artillery companies, destroyed 255 enemy artillery pieces, 27 military vehicles, 103 machine guns, and more than 1,150 fortifications; captured 125 guns (guns) and 3 artillery pieces. 40 rocket launchers and 16 individual rockets and a batch of military supplies (documents). I suffered 2,134 casualties (663 returned to the front line from wounded), of whom 413 were killed. It has fulfilled the requirement of "one battle is better than the other" put forward by the general headquarters, won a major victory in the war against Vietnam, comprehensively tempered and enhanced the combat capability of the troops, and satisfactorily fulfilled the combat tasks entrusted by the Central Military Commission, the general headquarters, and the military region. He was commended by a circular order issued by Deng Xiaoping, then chairman of the Central Military Commission.
