On March 18, local time, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan said that after consultation with the president, opposition leaders and the ruling party team, it was decided to hold early parliamentary elections on June 20 this year.
The Armenian Parliament is unicameral and has a total of 101 seats for a term of 5 years. Political parties with more than 5 per cent of the vote in elections and coalitions of parties with more than 7 per cent of the vote are able to enter Parliament. A political party or coalition of political parties that wins more than half of the seats has the right to nominate a prime minister and form a government, otherwise the two parties or coalitions of parties with the highest number of votes will compete for the right to form a cabinet in a new round of voting.
