The BBC reported that Prince Andrew was the third child of Queen Elizabeth II.

During the interview, the relationship between Prince Andrew and Epstein, as well as an American woman's sexual charges against him, became the focus of controversy.

Prince Andrew had previously defended his relationship with Epstein. In August, Epstein committed suicide while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, and two weeks later Prince Andrew defended their relationship.

But in an interview aired by the BBC on Saturday (16 November), Prince Andrew explained in detail why he "still" did not regret having this friendship.

The moment Epstein left the Navy and began serving as Special Representative for Trade and Industry, he said, he knew Epstein would bring "some very useful results."

Prince Andrew said: "Through him or because of him, the people I met and the learning opportunities I got were actually very useful. ”

Much of the interview focused on why the prince stayed at Epstein's home in 2010, when Epstein had been convicted and imprisoned for soliciting and inducing minors into prostitution.

The prince said the visit was to explain to Epstein that their friendship was over.

He said he had considered talking to Epstein over the phone, but eventually decided to meet him face-to-face to "show [his] leadership."

"It's serious, so I want to be in charge. And I felt like being a cowardly way of doing things over the phone, so I had to go see him and have an interview with him. ”

Newsnight host Emily Maitlis asked Prince Andrew to respond to allegations by Epstein's accuser, Virginia Giuffre (then known as Virginia Roberts). Genia said she met the prince in 2001, danced with him at a nightclub in London and had sex with him at Gislian's house in Belgravia, London.

Virginia Euphoria said she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew at the age of 17, but Prince Andrew explicitly denied the allegation. The following are responses to very specific details of the allegations.

In question, Emily noted that Virginia's allegations were "very specific," which included the prince's "profuse sweating."

In response, the prince said there was a "problem" with Virginia's story: he was unwell at the time, meaning he couldn't sweat.

He said: "I didn't sweat at the time because I used an overdose of adrenaline after I was wounded by a gunshot in the Falklands War, and I... It's almost impossible to sweat. ”

Prince Andrew revealed that he had investigated whether the photos provided by Virginia (or some elements of them) might have been fake.

One of the reasons the prince was suspicious of this was his own attire. He said: "I don't think it's my picture in London because... When I go to parties in London, I wear suits and ties. ”

He added: "That's my travel kit, if I'm going to travel abroad..."

"Nobody can prove if the photo was modified, but I don't remember taking that picture," he said. ”

He also said he did not believe the photograph was taken in the "way it was suggested" because it showed the prince's hand on the woman's waist.

"I don't hug and show love in public like I did [in this photo]."
