#National Tooth Love Day # This little doll has 20 teeth and 18 teeth are broken Doctors remind oral health to start with the doll

September 20 is the 33rd "National Love Tooth Day", in order to improve the public's awareness of children's oral health protection, on the morning of September 17, the Air Force Military Medical University Stomatological Hospital launched a health knowledge science popularization activity with the theme of "oral health, whole body health".

At about 9:30 a.m. on the same day, a general anesthesia operation for severe infant caries in the operating room of the hospital's pediatric dentistry was being carried out in an orderly manner. "This child has a total of 20 teeth, 18 of which have been broken to varying degrees, and if caries is allowed to develop, not only will the remaining healthy teeth be violated, but also the normal diet will be seriously affected." Wu Li'an, director of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Stomatological Hospital of the Air Force Military Medical University, said.

Miller, who is undergoing general anesthesia surgery, is only three years old and eight months this year, according to the child's mother Ms. Zu, because the child often drinks night milk, after falling asleep, the teeth are often soaked in milk, and usually contact with more sugary foods and do not brush their teeth frequently, when Miller is more than two years old, caries begins to "difficult". "At that time, the child was young, did not cooperate with the teeth, the teeth only had punctate demineration, discoloration symptoms, we did not pay attention to it, until some time ago he said that the toothache, came to the dental hospital for examination, only to know that the situation is very serious." Ms. Zu said.

Caries, commonly known as "insect tooth" and "tooth decay", is a chronic progressive destruction of the hard tissue of the tooth body affected by bacteria, food, tooth structure and time of action, and is a common disease of children's oral cavity. Compared with permanent teeth, due to the immature development of deciduous teeth, low degree of mineralization, thin enamel and dentin, the probability of caries is high; at the same time, infants and young children have poor chewing function, diet is mostly based on liquid or semi-liquid food, and sweet food, strong stickiness, easy fermentation and acid production, if parents have improper feeding habits, such as frequent and irregular bottles or breastfeeding, drinking milk before going to bed or eating before going to bed, resulting in food attached to the tooth surface for a long time, it is more likely to lead to the occurrence of deciduous tooth caries.

The fourth national oral health epidemiological survey shows that the caries rate of 3-year-old children in China is 50.8%, the average person has 2.28 deciduous caries, 70.9% at 5 years old, 4.24 deciduous caries per capita, 41.9% of permanent teeth caries from 12 to 15 years old, and 1.04 per capita caries of permanent teeth. Director Wu Lian said: "This proportion is very frightening, caries causes more harm to children than adults, affecting both local and overall health. To prevent caries in children, parents are the first responsible person for their children's dental health. ”

He said that the tooth defect caused by carious erosion of deciduous teeth will reduce the chewing function, which will lead to the formation of poor habits of partial chewing in children, which will cause asymmetric development of both sides for a long time. If multiple deciduous teeth in the mouth form caries holes, food residues, soft scales, etc. will easily stay in the mouth, resulting in deterioration of oral hygiene and increasing the caries rate of newly erupted permanent teeth. When deciduous tooth caries is not treated in time to develop periapical periodontitis, it may affect the inheritance of permanent tooth embryos, so that its enamel is underdeveloped, and in severe cases, it will lead to permanent teeth buried and impacted; in addition, the root tips of the affected teeth will sometimes penetrate the gums and be exposed to the mouth, resulting in chronic traumatic ulcers in nearby soft tissues. At the same time, because children are in a period of vigorous growth and development, if most of the deciduous teeth suffer from caries, the chewing function will inevitably decrease, which will greatly affect the intake of nutrients, the growth and development of children will be affected, and the body's resistance will also be reduced. Premature tooth loss caused by deciduous tooth decay, especially in the anterior tooth area, will affect pronunciation and aesthetics, and will also have a certain impact on children's mental health.

Wu Li'an suggested that healthy children should carry out an oral examination once every 3 to 6 months; at the same time, appropriate oral hygiene maintenance methods should be formulated according to the children's oral condition, for example, after each time the child drinks milk, he can dip light salt water or water on the gauze to achieve the effect of cleaning the mouth by wiping the tooth surface.

In addition, in order to let the child have a comfortable experience in the treatment process and dispel the child's nervousness and anxiety, the children's dentistry has spent a lot of thought. First of all, the department environment is pink, the medical staff's clothes are colored, all are relatively soft; secondly, the doctors and nurses try to gently use fairy tales to communicate with the child, using toy-style tweezers, small hooks, small mirrors and other tools to demonstrate the treatment steps; when the child lies down for treatment, the roof is installed with a TV set, you can watch cartoons to relax your mood; in addition, the department also bought stickers and "little warriors to see the teeth" small awards, and rewarded the child after the treatment.
