Kang Jing: Dust returns to dust | Emerging Artist of the Year 2020-2021

"Connected Age - Le 3# " is one of my series "Internet Age". The difference is that it is a work made at the exhibition site, and finally it is demolished with the exhibition, and the dust returns to the dust.

Usually I tend to think that the exhibition hall can prompt myself to open a state of autism cognitively, which is a test of myself. It is challenging to make the work appear intrinsically related to the exhibition hall, and the on-site production of a work is based on this consideration. I would like to emphasize that at the production site, the creators, producers, exhibition institutions and exhibition mechanisms each play a role in the generation of this work, and all this is also presented as the exhibition itself.

The days of the coronavirus made me feel the power of nature, and I began to look at the problem of alienation and symbiosis again, and tried to reflect it in this work. In fact, there are many materials that can realize the shape of this work, such as wooden board, plaster board... But that will be just an effect. I wanted to use a very heavy – architecturally relevant – solid concrete concrete brick structure. In the end, the rough-looking concrete walls are covered with white putty and latex paint – unified in white tones, almost blending in with the architectural space of the exhibition hall. So this process needs to be unfolded step by step to expose the complexity beneath its simple exterior.
