This is a precious photograph that spans time and space. Under a round-brimmed hat, there is a face full of youthful atmosphere, which is also the only photo of the martyr Tangzao that has survived.

The martyr TangZao was only 22 years old when he died, and he shed the last drop of blood for the revolutionary cause. No relics have survived, and there are few records of his lifetime.

In mid-September, nine members of the "Xiaozhuang Ten Heroic Martyrs" deeds search practice group of Nanjing Xiaozhuang College went to Rugao City, Jiangsu Province, the hometown of the martyr Tangzao, to visit the descendants of the martyrs' families, hoping to find more stories and memories about the martyrs and fill in the gaps in history.

In the Luyao community of Chengbei Subdistrict, Rugao City, the family of Tang Yadong, the nephew of the 69-year-old martyr, has been living here. In 1908, Tang Zao was born in the third group of Yangli Village, and also embarked on the revolutionary road from here.

Tang Zao was born in 1908 in a peasant family in Yangli Village, Rugao, Jiangsu Province, under the pseudonym Yang Regeneration.

During the Great Revolution, Tang Zao was admitted to Rugao Normal School and united progressive students to actively carry out anti-imperialist and anti-feudal struggles. In 1927, Tang Zao joined the Communist Party of China at Rugao Normal School.

In February 1928, Tang Zao, together with his classmates Shi Jun and Ma Mingju, was admitted to Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School, continued to carry out revolutionary activities, and joined the revolutionary armed Xiaozhuang United Village Self-Defense Regiment, becoming the backbone force, Tang Zao was regarded as the backbone of the students by the principal Tao Xingzhi.

In the autumn of 1929, appointed by Tao Xingzhi, Tang Zao came to Baima Village, Zhongshan Mausoleum Park, Nanjing, to establish a rural primary school. Here, Tang Zao carried forward the spirit of Xiaozhuang, enthusiastically served the peasants and their children, taught the peasants' children to read and read, and propagated revolutionary ideas among the peasant masses. Soon, Tang Zao was transferred to Nanjing Dongwazi Primary School as the principal.

In 1930, after Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School was armed by the Kuomintang authorities, teachers and students were forced to leave the school. After that, Tang Zao was ordered to conceal and secretly print leaflets in the party's underground printing house.

In July 1930, when Tang Zao finished engraving the "Declaration on the Establishment of the Second Division of the Fourteenth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army" and was about to be printed, the Kuomintang military and police broke through the door, and Tang Zao was not transferred and arrested in time.

In prison, Tang Zao was tortured and remained unyielding. On August 18, Tang Zao was heroically righteous at Yuhuatai in Nanjing, and was only 22 years old at the time of his death.

In Tang Yadong's introduction, the practice group learned that there were five brothers of the TangZao martyrs, who were the smallest in the rank of brothers. Tang Yadong is the grandson of Tang Yun, the eldest brother of Tang Zao.

The reason why Tang Zao embarked on the revolutionary road, the eldest brother Tang Yun is one of its guides.

"Tang Yun first studied at the Rugao Normal School, and under its influence, Tang Zao was also admitted to the Rugao Normal School, actively pursued progress, participated in revolutionary activities, and joined the party organization." Wang Qianqian, a member of the practice group, said.

At the age of 20, Tang Zao was admitted to Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School, and since then he has taken a boat to Nanjing in the eyes of his family, but has never returned to his hometown Rugao.

The practice group visited Tang Yadong, the nephew of the martyr Tang Zao

Over time, many memories have gradually been erased. In Tang Yadong's impression, when he was a child, he would often hear about this uncle from the mouths of his elders, but he also only said a few words. "At that time, the family only knew that he had gone to study and teach, and the family did not know the glorious deeds done by his uncle." Tang Yadong said.

When hearing this, Zhou Tong, a member of the practice group, saw tears flickering in the eyes of the elderly Tang Yadong, "His slightly slumped body lowered a little, and his palm gently brushed the tears that were about to slip from the corners of his eyes, and then he smiled slightly with relief and respect." ”

Zhou Tong felt that the resolute back of the martyr TangZao when he stepped on the ship became the last memory of his hometown, but this sincere thought continued from generation to generation in the family of the martyr Tangzao, and did not fade away because of the long age, which made her very moved, "Just a few words, we all felt a kind of strength and faith in his urgent tone, and the edification of the spirit of the martyrs from generation to generation, so that this great vitality-filled force continued to be passed on." ”

At Xiaozhuang Normal School, Tang Zao and his classmates Shi Jun and Ma Mingju became the best among the students, who were both excellent in character and learning, and were regarded as the backbone of the students by the principal Tao Xingzhi. Tao Xingzhi dared to hand over the "gun handle" of the Liancun Self-Defense Regiment to them, and the smoke and gambling bandits within forty miles around Xiaozhuang were swept away.

In the autumn of 1929, Tang Zao was sent by Tao Xingzhi to establish a rural primary school in Baima Village, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Park. Here, Tang Zao carried forward the spirit of Xiaozhuang, he not only taught peasant children to read and write, but also often went from village to village, made friends with farmers, and understood and cared about the sufferings of farmers. Evening schools were held to eliminate illiteracy, to lecture on current affairs and to propagate revolutionary ideas among the peasant masses. Because Ofzao has a good relationship with the local people, the school has also achieved considerable success.

Nowadays, whether in Rugao, the hometown of the martyr Tangzao, or in Yuhuatai, Nanjing, there are only a few records of the martyr's life. From the relevant book records, the practice group also learned some scattered records about the deeds of the martyrs.

Although the visit to the martyr's hometown was limited in understanding of the martyr's life deeds, for the nine members of the practice group, they gained a lot.

At the end of the search and departure, every member of the practice group was touched and admired. "The blood that rises is getting hotter and hotter and flows throughout the body." Zhou Tong said that they can't help but think of the close connection between the small self and the big self, at present, young students should fully absorb the spirit of martyrs, and the heroic spirit of Yuhua should be given a new connotation in the new era.

Wang Yannan, a member of the practice group, said, "The martyr Tangzao has not returned home since he went to Nanjing, nor has he left a photo, and under the narration of the elderly Tang Yadong, I still truly feel the ambition of the martyr Tangzao, which is far more real than what I read in the book, and it is more tearful." ”

Wang Yannan feels that because of the long age, the story of the martyr TangZao is rarely known to the younger generation, which makes her feel that the practice of this trip is full of meaning, "This practical activity made me more aware of the strength and determination of the communists, and now we just need to feel their enthusiasm, maintain the right direction of progress, and always be prepared." ”

"If a person dies in his youth, he will always be young in the memory of others." In 1930, the young Tang Zao fixed his life forever at the age of 22, leaving a picture of youth.

Today, a group of 20-year-old young students have come to the martyr's hometown to remember him. "In the past, he was born here, and now, we are inheriting and carrying forward their revolutionary spirit, and in the future, we will pass on their spirit and pass it on from generation to generation." Wang Qianqian said that the story of the martyrs should not be forgotten, and the two words of Tang Zao should not only be engraved on the heroic wall, but also on the heart of every young student.
