"There is no fear of death, because there is no time for you to be afraid of death." Lin Yueying, an 85-year-old veteran of Qingyuan, participated in the Jincheng Counterattack, which was the last battle to resist the United States and aid Korea.
Bombed by planes, almost stepped on mines, carefully cleared the battlefield... After so many years, Lin Yueying can still clearly remember the scenes on the battlefield, he said that he did not have great merits, but just did his part for the motherland.
Entering the DPRK
I almost stepped on a landmine on the march
Lin Yueying's family is poor, and after finishing the sixth grade of primary school, she wants to come out to work early. When Lin Yueying was a child, he witnessed the Japanese army invading his hometown and watched the soldiers defend their families and defend the country, and he felt that it was very honorable to be a soldier. So he joined the army and became a member of the public security team. Soon after, Lin Yueying was transferred to the Chinese Volunteer Army.
In 1952, 16-year-old Lin Yueying crossed the Yalu River with his troops and entered North Korea to the outskirts of Pyongyang. At that time, the first task of the unit was to fight the American airborne troops, and after nearly 20 days of stationing in Pyongyang, the airborne troops did not appear, so the troops again advanced in the direction of the 38th Line. Lin Yueying said that the battlefield is uncertain.
In order to avoid reconnaissance, they walked in the deep mountains and dense forests during the day, and took the train at night, which was not easy to detect. As a recruit, Lin Yueying didn't understand anything at that time, and he was a bit sloppy. "He took me by the hand, threw me back behind my back, and scolded me." At that time, Lin Yueying almost stepped on the front mine, but fortunately the squad leader stopped it in time. Recalling this incident, Lin Yueying smiled lightly and had tears in his eyes.
War
Air observation alerts comrades to avoid
"We're fighting the White Tiger Regiment." In June 1953, when an armistice was about to be signed, the Syngman Rhee clique of South Korea declared that it would continue to fight unilaterally in an attempt to undermine the realization of the armistice. In order to achieve a stable and reliable truce, the Jincheng counterattack began in July. Lin Yueying participated in this battle, and he remembered that they were fighting against the famous White Tiger Regiment of South Korea.
As a second-line force, many of Lin Yueying's comrades-in-arms had to transport ammunition to the front-line troops to replenish. He said that many compatriots from Qingyuan also died during transportation.
Because of a serious cold, Lin Yueying was taken care of by the troops and was not sent to transport ammunition, but was responsible for air observation. In order to let the soldiers remember the mission, the troops also compiled a song at that time. "My weapons are two red flags and a rifle..." Because time has passed for too long, Lin Yueying can only sing intermittently. However, he still remembers very clearly what the task of air observation was.
"We mainly listen to the sound of airplanes to remind comrades driving to avoid." Lin Yueying said that the sound of the chariot was loud, and the people in the vehicle could not hear the enemy plane coming. His task was to raise red flags during the day after hearing the sound of enemy aircraft, and to shoot guns at night to remind his comrades to avoid.
Regarding aircraft bombing, Lin Yueying still has many memories, and he often laments that he has a "big life". When he first entered the battlefield, there was an enemy plane coming, and the other comrades-in-arms dug deep in accordance with the regulations to avoid, and Lin Yueying was injured by the aircraft because he did not dig deep enough. Another time, the enemy plane dropped a bomb and hit the cauldron, and the squad leader who was cooking something next to him was deafened, and Lin Yueying, who was nearby, luckily escaped the disaster.
armistice
There are still people who have died in the clearing of the battlefield
On July 27, 1953, the armistice was signed, and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, which lasted for 2 years and 9 months, came to an end. Lin Yueying was sent to clean up the battlefield, and at that time, he also witnessed the departure of some of his comrades.
There were many bullets, grenades and other weapons and equipment left on the battlefield, and some comrades-in-arms put these things together, accidentally triggered the grenade, and were killed. Even if the war is over, there are still people who have died here.
After returning to China in 1956, Lin Yueying was assigned to work at the state-owned Yellow River Machine Factory in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. In 1962, he returned to Qingyuan.
After retirement, Lin Yueying often contacted his comrades-in-arms. In the photo album, there are many photos of Lin Yueying and his comrades-in-arms. He would also go to find his comrades who were fighting alongside him, but as he grew older, some of them died one after another.
Even after 71 years, Lin Yueying still has an unforgettable memory of this experience, "I did not have great merit, but just did my part for the motherland." He said.
