Titles were a relatively important political right in ancient times, and it was usually only those who had merit were knighted. The two Han Dynasties followed the twentieth rank of the Qin Dynasty, and the Shu Han followed the knighthood system of the Eastern Han Dynasty, except for the princes, the highest rank was the Marquis of Liehou, and the highest rank of the Marquis of Lihou was the Marquis of County. Judging from the records of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, only nine people in the Shu Han Dynasty were explicitly named county marquises. However, the well-known Zhuge Liang and the "Five Tiger Generals" are not among them. So who are the nine people who have been enthroned as county marquises? What do they have in common?

First, let's look at which nine people have been knighted as county marquises. During Liu Bei's reign, two people were county marquises, namely Liu Bao the Marquis of Yangquan and Marquis Xiangju of Qingyi; during Zhuge Liang's reign, Wei Yan was given the title of Marquis of Southern Zheng, which was a county marquis; after Zhuge Liang's death, there were Wu Yi the Marquis of Jiyang, Jiang Wei the Marquis of Pingxiang, and Wang Ping, the Marquis of Anhan. In addition to the above six people, there are also Chen Canghou Madai, Hou Jufu of Tangqu, and Wu Ban, Marquis of Mianzhu, the specific time of being crowned marquis is not clear, but it should be after Zhuge Liang's death.
Liu Bao, Xiang Ju, Wei Yan, Wu Yi, Jiang Wei, Wang Ping, Ma Dai, Jufu, Wu Ban, in this list of Wei Yan, Jiang Wei, Wang Ping, Ma Dai four people may be well known, the remaining five people are relatively low in popularity. The famous Zhuge Liang, as well as Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Huang Zhong, and Zhao Yun, the "Five Tiger Generals", had no connection with the county marquis, and only Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei, and Ma Chao were given the title of township marquis.

Neither Zhuge Liang nor the "Five Tiger Generals" were given the title of County Marquis, so why were these nine people able to be made County Marquis, and in what context were they? Among them, Liu Bao and Xiang Ju's information is blank, completely undocumented, and may not have been sealed by Liu Bei, but by the Eastern Han court, or inherited by the ancestral county marquis; Wei Yan was made a county marquis because of his victory over Cao Wei in the eighth year of Shu Han Jianxing (that is, 230 AD).
After Zhuge Liang's death, shu Han made Wu Yi the governor of Hanzhong, and Wu Yi was given the title of Marquis of Jiyang; after Wu Yi's death, Wang Ping took over his position and became the governor of Hanzhong, also known as the Marquis of Anhan. It can be seen that in the important position of governor of Hanzhong, it seems that it is easier for the general to be a marquis. Jiang Wei was given the title of Marquis of Pingxiang after Zhuge Liang's death. Zhuge Liang died, and The long history Jiang Huan became the ruler, but the military aspects were entrusted to Jiang Wei. It was at this time that Jiang Wei was given the title of Marquis of the County. The situation of Ma Dai, Jufu and Wu Ban is unknown.

Judging from the above content, it is basically possible to see the characteristics of shu han's feudal counties and princes more clearly. Except for Liu Bao and Xiang Ju, whose deeds were blank, the remaining seven were all related to the military. Wei Yan was properly made a county marquis because of his military merits, and Wu Yi, Wang Ping, and Jiang Wei were also made county marquises because they held important military positions.
As for Ma Dai, Jufu, and Wu Ban, although it is uncertain when they were made county marquises, it cannot be denied that all three of them are martial people. Ma Dai's identity was that of a general in Pingbei and had a record of leading the Northern Expedition alone; Jufu had been a general on the left, and in the Huayang Guozhi there was an evaluation that "there was Wang Ping (Wang Ping) and Sentence (Sentence Fu) before, and Zhang (Zhang Yi) and Liao (Liao Hua) in the later" in the "Huayang Guozhi"; Wu Ban also served as a general on horseback. Wei Yan, Wu Yi, Wu Ban, Wang Ping, Jiang Wei, Ma Dai, and Jufu can all be said to be famous generals of the Shu Han Dynasty.
Compared with these people, although Zhuge Liang and other rulers held high positions of authority, their military merits were limited, and there were not enough military merits to be knighted, so the highest was given the title of township marquis. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, and Huang Zhongjungong were enough, but they died too early. Shu Han's large number of marquises began with Liu Chan's ascension to the throne, and none of these four people caught up, only Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were made township marquises. When Zhao Yun caught up with a large number of marquises, he was also given the title of Marquis of Yongchangting. However, he lacked military merits like the "Battle of Yangxi", and his death time was relatively early, so he stayed in the position of Tinghou.
