When you attend the banquet, I wonder if you notice that whenever the host finishes toasting to the guests, he will raise the wine glass to show respect for the guests. This move was later known as "Du Ju". It turns out that this custom came from the Spring and Autumn Period of Our Country, which has been more than 2,000 years ago.

So, what is the story in "Du Ju"?

It is said in the Book of Rites that the famous physician of the Jin Dynasty, Zhi Mozi, was dead and had not yet been buried, so the Duke of Jinping drank wine, and his musician Ping Kuang and his favorite courtier Li Tun accompanied him, ping kuang struck the bell to help Xingxing, and Du Gong (ashamed) of the jin ping gong heard the bell ringing, so he came in from outside and asked, "Where?" Someone replied, "In the inner room." Du Wei approached the inner chamber and climbed up the steps, he poured a glass of wine and said, "Si Kuang, you drink this cup!" He poured another glass of wine and said, "Li Tong, you drink this cup!" Then, pouring a third glass of wine, he knelt north on the hall and drank it dryly, and then walked down the steps and walked quickly out of the hall.

Jinping Gong took a look, there must be a play here, which one is this? He called out to Du Huan to come in and said to him, "Did you have something to say to me just now, what do you mean by punishing your teacher for drinking?" ”

Du Huan replied to Ping gong: "On the day of the death of the son, the monarch is not allowed to drink alcohol for pleasure. Now that the coffin of the Son of The Prophet is still parked in the hall, isn't this kind of thing more important than the day of the death of the Son? Shi Kuang was a taishi, and he didn't even give a warning, so he punished him with a cup. ”

According to ancient legend, Shang Yi and Xia Jie died on the day of Jia Zi and Yi Ji respectively, and later they took the two days of Jia Zi and Yi Di as the death days of the monarch, and they were not allowed to drink alcohol and play music, called "Zi Zi Bu Le".

Ping Gong asked again, "Then why did you punish Li Tiao for drinking?" ”

Du Wei replied: "Li Qiu is a close subordinate of the monarch's favor, and in order to eat and drink, he forgot the things that the monarch should be afraid of, so he also punished him with a cup." ”

Ping Gong asked again, "Then what does it mean that you have a drink yourself?" ”

Du Wei replied, "I am just a cook, and my duty was to concentrate on serving knives and spoons and food for the banquet, but now I am involved in this matter, so I punish myself." ”

Jin Pinggong listened to Du Huan's words, and instead of blaming Du Huan, he made a self-criticism, saying: "I also have mistakes, you pour wine, punish me with a cup!" (The widow has also had a temper, drinking from the widow)"

After Du Wei listened, he washed the 觯 (音自, an ancient drinking utensil) and held it up and offered it to Pinggong. Pinggong said to the waiter, "If I die, I must not discard this vessel!" ”

Du Yaoju honored Pinggong, which is the origin of "Du Ju". But a cook can advise the monarch, and the monarch can gladly accept it, which is indeed rare in history, and speaking to the monarch at the level of a chef, I am afraid that there are ten thousand heads on his body. The key is that Du Wei was not buried for the death of his son, and The strategy of Jinping Gong drinking was not in accordance with etiquette, he did not say it directly, but through the punishment of the Taishi ministers around Ping Gong, and then the steps of self-punishment, with his humorous character, let Ping Gong himself realize what was wrong.

There is a famous line in Zhao Benshan's sketch "Selling Abductions": "A chef does not study recipes, but studies the art of war!" "It really started with Du Wei. A laugh.
