Small Lou Lane overhead shot

Xiao lou lane, a small place in the old town of Wuxi, was an important cultural town in Wuxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The famous Families of Xiyi, the Tan Clan, the Sun Clan, the Wang Clan and the Qin Clan live here, which can be described as a collection of humanities.

Xiao Lou Lane has long been called "Ming Ke Li"

Xiaolou Lane in the geographical sense, east to Sujia Lane, west to Xinsheng Road, south to Qining Road, north to Futian Lane. In urban renewal, the existing parts are the northern and southern eastern halves. Xiao lou lane in the sense of time began in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and has a history of more than 900 years.

Xiaolou Lane is the hereditary residence of the Tan and Qin clans in Wuxi. According to the "Wuxi Tan Clan Genealogy", the ancestor of the Tan clan, Tan Xin, originally lived in the Northern Song Dynasty in The Northern Song Dynasty (Kaifeng, Henan) and served in the Hanlin Academy. In the second year of Jing Kang (1127), jin soldiers invaded, Fenjing fell, and Emperor Gaozong of Song fled south in a hurry, and Tan Xin followed him to Jiangnan and settled in Wuxi.

The place where Tanxin lived was originally called "Ming Ke Li", and the ancient poem "Look across the forest, listen to Ming Ke alone", which means that the owner of the house has a noble status, and the sound of traveling by horse ornament jade is endless.

Qing Kangxi's "Wuxi County Chronicle" about Xiao lou Lane

In the Yuan Dynasty, Mingkeli was renamed "Dai Ji Lane" because there was a tomb of dai in the lane, and later called "Lou Lane" because there were more buildings in the alley connected to it in the west. Later, Lou Lane gradually became Lou Lane, in order to show the difference, so the former was called Da Lou Lane, Dai Ji Lane is today's Xiao Lou Lane.

The Ming Dynasty of the Tan clan was the most prosperous, producing many talents, the most famous of which was the tenth grandson of Jiajing (1526) Tanxin, the jinshi Tankai, who was tired of the official to the capital of the Imperial History, and his engraved "Taiping Guangji" retained a large amount of ancient novel materials.

Tan Kai built the "Wanbei Hall" on Xiaolou Lane and the Great River, and there were originally two plaques given by the Jiajing Emperor, "Tianzhang Yunjin" and "Outstanding and Brilliant". At that time, Wanbeitang was known as the "first homestead" in Wuxi City. There is a Taihu stone in the Wanbei Hall called "Five Old Peaks", named after the five peaks of the stone, which was given to his teacher by Emperor Gaozong of Song in that year.

Tan Kai died early, and when his mother, Mrs. Wang, was in her 90th birthday, she changed her house to a Taoist temple. Later, when Jinkui County wanted to build a city god temple, the descendants of the Tan clan donated the theater, pavilion, and rockery in the house together and built the Jinkui County God Temple.

This Wanbei Hall of the Tan family belonged to the Wang clan during the Wanli period, and of course, the Five Old Peaks, which enjoyed the glory of the Ming and Qing dynasties, also changed their owners. In 1936, Rong Desheng had planned to buy this Taihu stone, but for some reason it did not succeed.

Little Lou Lane today

After liberation, when Huishan built Xihui Park, at the suggestion of the central leader Lu Dingyi, Wulaofeng moved from Tanshi Wanbei Hall to Xiuzhuang Gate in front of Yingshan Lake in Xihui Park, becoming the stone of xihui park. The so-called fate of people, migrated to Xihui Park, the Five Old Peaks, but failed to be as safe and sound as the Ming and Qing dynasties, looking down on the gap between the white colts in the world. During the Cultural Revolution, WulaoFeng was pushed down on the spot, and failed to escape the burning of the fire, turning into lime and crushing into dust.

Tan Kai had a nephew named Tan Xiu, who is said to have a collection of 10,000 books at home, and he left many works in the local history of Wuxi, such as "Huishan Ancient and Modern Examination" and "Notes on Wuxi County Studies".

Yinuo Qianjin "Shao Zaidi"

To say that Xiaolou Lane is a cultural landmark in Wuxi's history is by no means an exaggeration. Since the Song Dynasty, there has been a champion, thirteen jinshi, and fifteen people from here. This title is Sun Jigao, the first champion in the history of Wuxi, and he is related to Tan Kai.

Sun Jigao, a native of Shuanghe, Wuxi during the Ming Dynasty, moved to a small river in the city at the age of thirteen and studied at tankai where he was hidden. Sun Jigao is talented and intelligent, but he was also a naughty ghost when he was a child. Once when he returned from a visit to Kai Kai, he saw That Sun Jigao was riding on the guardrail next to the stone steps in front of the hall, and called it "Zhuangyuan riding a white horse." Tan Kai listened and said casually, "If you really win the title, I will give you this house." ”

Sun Jigao did not live up to the expectations of the people, and in the first year of the Wanli Calendar (1573), he was raised to the top of the first place, and the next year he entered the Beijing Temple to try the first place, the first and the first. Tan Kai also did what he said, keeping his promise to give his "Wanbei Hall" to Sun Jigao. Sun Jigao insisted on not resigning, but at Tan Kai's insistence, Sun Jigao finally bought part of the house at a price, and later the imperial court funded the expansion of the house. Because the official waiter was called "Shao Zai" at that time, the house was called "Shao Zai Di".

At that time, the people of Wuxi did not call it "Shao Zai Di", but called it "Huang Baotou Li". The reason is that Sun Jigao's family was poor when he was young, and his mother made a living by embroidering "yellow baotou" (the cloth wrapped around the head of the old ancestor in "Dream of the Red Chamber"). To this day, Xiaolou Lane still preserves the remnants of Sun Jigao's Shao Zaidi building.

No. 40-52, thick humanistic charm

If you say that the talents of Xiaolou Lane, then you only need to hand it, like the familiar "familiar with the three hundred Tang poems, can not compose poems and can also chant", the editor of "Three Hundred Tang Poems" "Hengtang Retired Soldier" Sun Su, "the father of the Chinese character laser illumination system" Wang Xuan are all Xiao Lou Xiang people.

The existing buildings in Xiaolou Lane are mainly from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, and the essence is concentrated in No. 40-52, all of which are old houses with a history of 800 or 900 years, simple and elegant, and the longest preparation is up to 100 zhang. The owners of the house are Hu Jupo, a scholar of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Ming Dynasty, Zhang Mengsu, the owner of the long-established silk satin village "Shitaisheng", Sun Yat-sen's secretary, and Wuxi County Ling Qin Yujun.

Old photo of "Garden"

Behind the Qin Yu's mansion is the famous Xiyi Garden, which is small and flexible, quiet in the middle of the bustle, and the stone carvings of the "Garden" are inscribed by Sun Yat-sen and hu Hanmin, the elder of the Kuomintang, and the stone incense burner during the Ming Dynasty.

If you come to Xiaolou Lane, the Tan Clan Ancestral Hall at No. 48 is also not to be missed. At that time, Tan Jiazhen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also came here to find his roots and ask his ancestors. The ancestral hall door faces south, there are double eaves elephant trunk arches in front of the door, a pair of Shangma stones outside the door are Relics of the Song Dynasty, and four pairs of lotus petal chess poles are Relics of the Ming Dynasty; on both sides of the entrance door are box rooms, and there are two century-old laurel trees and an ancient well in the patio... Brick by brick, every detail can feel the traces of time.
