The concubines that Lü Bu really possessed were not Gao Shun and Zhang Liao, but the first of these three: Wei Xu second: Cheng Lian third: Wei Yue

author:General Lang of the Canon

Lü Bu was an important figure in the Three Kingdoms era at the end of the Han Dynasty, and the Hezhou military clique with Lü Bu as the core was an important force at that time. Lü Bu, as the supreme commander of the hezhou army, was similar to other warlords, and was suspicious by nature, especially many of the generals under the account.

The concubines that Lü Bu really possessed were not Gao Shun and Zhang Liao, but the first of these three: Wei Xu second: Cheng Lian third: Wei Yue

Looking at Lü Bu's account, the one who can really be called a concubine is not the commander of the "trapped camp", Gao Shun, nor Zhang Liao, who is brave and martial. Gao Shun had been alienated by Lü Bu since Hao Meng's rebellion, while Zhang Liao had brought his own army and was actually a semi-independent force.

In fact, in Lü Bu's heart, the real love of the concubine will actually be the following three:

According to the "Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms and Lü Bu", which notes the "Hero's Record", there was a so-called "outer and inner relative" between Lü Bu and Wei Xu, that is, the two of them had an in-law relationship. Looking at the military generals under Lü Bu's account, only Wei Xu and Lü Bu had this relationship. Therefore, Lü Bu had great trust in Wei Xu, and even handed over to him the command of the elite troops "trapped in the camp".

However, it was embarrassing that when Lü Bu was besieged by Cao Cao and the situation was critical, it was Wei Xu, song xian, and Hou Cheng who tied up Chen Gong and led the crowd to surrender to Cao Cao, which eventually caused Lü Bu to be taken captive by Cao Cao. For Lü Bu, his own concubine's love for Wei Xu was undoubtedly a heavy blow to him.

The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms and the Biography of Lü Bu refers to Cheng Lian as Lü Bu's "closeness", that is, a confidant and beloved general of the concubine. Cheng Lian fought bravely, especially in first-class riding, and was good at charging into battle. When Lü Bu fought against Zhang Yan, the commander of the Black Mountain Army, Cheng Lian was one of the two love generals around Lü Bu, helping Lü Bu to break Zhang Yan and achieving outstanding battle achievements.

Unlike Wei Xu, Cheng Lian had always been loyal to Lü Bu. According to the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms and the Chronicle of Emperor Wu:

"(Cao Cao) advanced to Xia Pi, and (Lü) Bu zi rode back. If it is broken, it will become incorruptible."

According to this, it can be seen that Cheng Lian was an important general that Lü Bu used to resist Cao Cao, and although he was eventually captured by Cao Cao, compared with Wei Xu, who voluntarily surrendered to Cao Cao, Cheng Lian was undoubtedly a loyal and courageous person.

Wei Yue, in the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, and ChengLian call Lü Bu "close", namely:

"(Lü Bu) often became close to Cheng Lian, Wei Yue, and others who fell into the front and broke the Yan army."

It can be seen that Wei Yue was also a fierce general who was good at cavalry combat, deeply trusted by Lü Bu, and played an important role in defeating Zhang Yan's Black Mountain Army. However, due to the lack of historical data, the specific deeds after Wei Yue are unknown, and it is possible that he was captured by Cao Cao at the same time as Lü Bu in the third year of Jian'an (198).

Based on this, among the many military generals under Lü Bu's account, only Wei Xu, Cheng Lian, and Wei Yue could be called Lü Bu's concubines. Although Gao Shun was loyal to Lü Bu, he was extremely suspicious of Lü Bu; Zhang Liao was a semi-independent force, and Lü Bu was not at ease with him. Therefore, Lü Bu's true concubines were not Lü Bu and Zhang Liao, but Wei Xu, Cheng Lian, and Wei Yue.
