Eugene Souleiman creates a white witch's chic hairstyle for Roland Mouret's Fall/Winter 2016 collection at Paris Fashion Week

Backstory:

Salem White Witch has in some ways unexpectedly become a reference point for Roland Mouret's Fall/Winter 2016 collection. Inspired by the White Witch of Salem, Eugene infused a touch of '70s avant-garde fashion with a youthful free elf image that blended with nature to create a free-flowing hairstyle with supernatural textures that fluttered on the runway at Paris Fashion Week.

"It's not just a natural hairstyle – it's a supernatural hairstyle. We wanted the models to look as young and fresh as possible – like healthy young women who live an outdoor idyllic life and are close to nature. However, a little bit of the avant-garde style of the 70s Stevie Nicks has also been added to the hairstyle. The hairstyle is simple but very effective. At the Mouret fashion show, it was shown by many different models and looked very good. ”

Key styling tips:

First, Eugene divides a distinct slit in the freshly washed, naturally dry hair, then lifts the front hair, sprays the Weina foam wax underneath and combs the hair forward, flattening the roots. Around the top of his head, he kept repeating the process, spraying the product only at the root of the hair, allowing the product to blend into the first few inches of the hair at the root, avoiding spraying the product in the middle and ends of the hair.

"The most important part of this hairstyle is to create soft, flowing hair that flutters as the model moves. So we don't want the hair to weigh too much. First the hair is smooth and has a feminine graphic feel, and then along the length of the hair, the hair becomes lighter, naturally forming a dynamic and textured structure. ”

In order to add 70s style elements to the hairstyle, Eugene first used the Weena Radiance Styling Spray on the front "hair curtain", then folded the hair backwards and used the hairpin to fix the hair just above the ears to create a soft elastic roll. To enhance the dynamic and textured structure of the hair, he pulls the middle section of the hair into a loose braid, sprays water on the hair, then blows the entire hair dry, flattens the hair on the top of the head with a hair mesh, and sets it along the slit. Finally, Eugene removes the hair clip, unpacks the braid, and combs the hair with his fingers to mess up the hair for the ultimate static soft, flowing effect.

Blur boundaries

Eugene Souleiman creates a bisexual rock chic hairstyle for acne Studios Fall/Winter 2016 at Paris Fashion Week

ACNE Studios has always advocated a stylish intersex style. Its AW16 collection continues this style, blending form and function to create an ultra-modern, neutral aesthetic collection. Inspired by the brand's unyielding attitude, Eugene has created a personalised hairstyle that showcases the image of a cynical rock singer. They appeared at an electronic music concert, took off the beanie hats they had worn all day, revealing their raw, messy, flat hair.

"Jonny (Johansson) uses modern music production to create it – a cut-, paste-and-mix approach that represents multiple influences. Improvised quality is essentially about attitudes, not specific types or genders. We wanted the hair to reflect that anarchist creative spirit and overall personal style. ”

First, Eugene has a deep side slit aligned with the tip of the eyebrow. He then sprayed a large amount of Veena foam wax on his hair from a very close distance, and combed it flat, creating oblique bangs across the forehead along the shape of his head, covering one ear and fixing it tightly on the back of his neck. On the other side of the slit, using a large amount of product, smooth the hair backwards and fix it to the back of the neck. Then, in the middle of the hair, spray heavily with Veena Gel and flatten the hair, eliminating the fluffiness and creating the final hairstyle with an original matte finish. Next, wrap the entire head tightly with a hair net, blow dry the hair thoroughly, and set the shape. After removing the net, Eugene takes a small amount of Veena's subcolor hair mud and rubs it in the palm of his hand, applying a drag on the flattened surface of the hair, creating friction for the ultimate shiny, fluffy shattering effect. Finally, he freely pulls the strands of hair, rubbing them with his thumb and forefinger, creating a structure that flies at will.

"The essence of this hairstyle is to create blurred lines: to create blurred lines between male and female, rock and electronic, flat and textured structure, dry and shiny. It is a very precise hairstyle. But the hairstyle is not very smooth or neat, but very compact and dense. Flatten the hair to accentuate the head shape, then soften it through the original broken texture. ”

Angel Warriors

Eugene Souleiman created textured halo hairstyles for the 2016 Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood fall/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week

Inspired by the colourful halo of an old friend of a Buddhist monk, Andreas Kronthaler's eponymous debut collection under the reimagined Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection shows a new beginning and personal style. Textures and colors conflict with each other and are extremely incongruous. The same goes for hairstyles. Their design style is prominent rather than integrated. Eugene references a variety of graphics, from religious portraits to National Geographic graphics, to create unique angelic warriors. Their hair was as hazy and beautiful as a mist. As they walked on the catwalk, their hair gleaming in the light.

"It is the imperfection of this hairstyle that makes it so beautiful. Everything I saw in the reference graphics gave me the feeling of "made in heaven" – they had to look beautiful, but they had to come alive naturally. The feminine flowing hair creates a feeling of sparkle. But when contrasted with the raw, natural texture, something really modern is created – like angel warriors. ”

Eugene first applies Weena's silky gel to freshly dried hair, then blows it with a hair dryer while stroking the roots with her fingers to instantly add movement and create a natural, vibrant texture. Removing the hair dryer nozzle, Eugene heats in the opposite direction, randomly fixing the hair to create a nebulizing effect. For the purpose of fixing the shape, while heating, the Wiena Gel is applied in the same opposite direction – from the end to the root – to ensure the final set force.

"I create this effect and it looks like the model is glowing. I just wanted this atomized hair texture effect that would make the models look like they were glowing from within under the catwalk lights. ”

To enhance the graphics, Eugene pulls her hair forward over the model's forehead, applies her fingers to Wiena's plump mousse, and "pastes" the bangs into place. Finally, Eugene combs her hair at will to create some "matte" long strands of hair, rubbing it between the palms of her hands to create an imperfect natural final result.
