Chen Boda was born in Lingtou Village, Hui'an County, Fujian Province, where his former residence is also located. Chen Boda's great-grandfather Chen Jincheng was a Qing Dynasty official, who once served as the head of the Yunnan Division and thus became a local celebrity, and the former residence of Chen Boda and Chen Jincheng was merged into one. In 1970, he was named and criticized by Chairman Mao at the Lushan Conference, expelled from the party, sentenced to 18 years in prison in 1981, and died of illness in 1989.
