Nian Qianyao did not bow to Yongzheng until his death, because of pride, or for other reasons

author:Zhang Shengquan's wonderful history

In Yongzheng's words, he and Nian Qianyao are examples of ancient kings and courtiers, and they are to be manifested to the court and future generations. However, in the third year of Yongzheng's succession, Nian Qianyao was dismissed from his post and knighted, and he was listed with 92 felonies, allowing him to "self-destruct in prison." In the whole process, there is no record of Nian Qianyaoben bowing to Yongzheng and saying forgiveness. Then, why didn't Nian Qianyao say goodbye to Yongzheng until his death?

During the reign of Kangxi, Nian Qianyao was already deeply respected and was repeatedly promoted. The reason for this is that Nian Qianyao was not only a military general who quelled the rebellion in the border, he also wrote well and was also very disciplined in local governance.

As a result, he became a favorite vassal of Kangxi, and became the governor of Sichuan and Shaanxi.

So, when did he become Yongzheng's confidant?

In his later years, because of his great attachment to the throne, the performance of the crown prince Yin Rong made him see the potential threat of seizing power. Therefore, in a fit of rage, he deposed Yin Rong's crown prince, triggering the "Nine Sons and Concubines".

It was at the beginning of the conquest that Kangxi invisibly pushed Nian Qianyao into Yongzheng's camp.

In the forty-eighth year of the Kangxi Dynasty, on the one hand, Nian Qianyao was promoted out of the ordinary and served as the governor of Sichuan. On the other hand, Yongzheng, who was still a prince at the time, was given the title of Prince of Yong, and at the same time, Kangxi also allocated the white flag of the Han army to which Nian Qianyao belonged to Yongzheng.

In this way, Nian Qianyao and Yongzheng had a master-servant relationship.

Subsequently, in the fifty years of Kangxi, due to Nian Qianyao's meritorious efforts in quelling the Sichuan rebellion, Kangxi, in honor of Nian Qianyao, took his sister Nian Shi and Promised Yongzheng as a side Fujin.

In this way, Nian Qianyao became Yongzheng's brother-in-law again, and his relationship with Yongzheng was one step closer.

Because of this heavy relationship, coupled with Yongzheng's vigorous efforts to win, Nian Qianyao naturally became an important figure in Yongzheng's conquest.

So, what role did Nian Qianyao play when Yongzheng seized the concubine?

In the fifty-sixth year of the Kangxi Dynasty, due to the invasion of Tibet by the Dzungar chieftain Alabutan, Kangxi ordered the fourteenth son of the Emperor Yin Yu to be the general of Fuyuan and go to quell the war.

At this time, the crown prince who had taken the concubine was heavily suppressed by Kangxi, and only Yongzheng and Yin Yu were left with the strength to seize the concubine.

Yin Yu became the General of Fuyuan. According to the historical practice of the Qing Dynasty, this was kangxi's intention to give him the opportunity to create military merit. That is, to accumulate capital for him.

Of course, this is the speculation of ordinary ministers, because no one knows what Kangxi really thought.

For this unfavorable situation, Yongzheng naturally needed someone to restrain Yin Yu, who held the power to command the army. Therefore, at his recommendation, Nian Qianyao was again promoted to the governor of Sichuan and Shaanxi, mainly responsible for the distribution of grain and grass.

Although this position is a logistical task, it has proved to be a very important link.

After Kangxi's death, Yongzheng succeeded to the throne in accordance with the edict of succession. This incident surprised everyone, and no one expected that it would be Yongzheng who would inherit the throne! There were many people who disobeyed him for a while, and even his birth mother, Princess De, was very unhappy.

Naturally, Yin Yu, who was far away in Qinghai, had to hear the news, and he was even more unwilling, and he who had a heavy army in his hands wanted to rebel, and it was not without a chance.

At this time, the importance of Nian Tangyao is highlighted. When Nian Tangyao distributed grain and grass, he only distributed grain for three days at a time. In this way, even if Yin Yu wanted to rebel, without grain and grass, and rushed back to Beijing from Qinghai, there was no way to do it.

In addition, Nian Qianyao had a high prestige in the army because of his perennial conquest of the northwest, coupled with his insightful command of combat. If Yin Yu wanted to lead the army to rebel, he could also suppress those soldiers.

Therefore, in the matter of Yongzheng's succession to the throne, Nian Qianyao was gracious to him.

In addition, Yongzheng's succession to the throne also had a trouble, that is, Qinghai countered the rebellion, and from the end of Kangxi's life until he took over, he had not been able to put an end to it.

If he could handle the Qinghai rebellion now, it would naturally be more favorable to him to consolidate imperial power.

Therefore, Yongzheng ordered Nian Qianyao to be the general of Fuyuan to quell the Qinghai rebellion.

Nian Qianyao was also very powerful, and it took only one year to quell the Qinghai rebellion.

This made Yongzheng overjoyed, after all, this confirmed his strength and ability to be an emperor, and invisibly consolidated his imperial power. Therefore, he rewarded Nian Tangyao with great rewards, and regarded him as a humerus, and everything had to be discussed with Nian Xiangyao, and he was very respectful of his opinions in matters such as employing people.

For a time, the monarchs and courtiers loved each other, and the relationship was incomparably close.

While Yongzheng was happy, he also said to Nian Qianyao: "If you are not an outstanding emperor, you cannot reward Er's treatment; er is not a superior minister, and you cannot promise the knowledge of Yuan... In the mind to be a role model figure for eternity also. ”

At this time, Nian Qianyao was really above ten thousand people, plus Yongzheng loved him in every way, and this kind of pampering made Nian Qianyao soon pampered and proud. He was arrogant and arrogant with his colleagues, corrupt and extravagant in life, formed parties in the court for personal gain, and even the guards sent by the imperial court were used by him as a slave to "guide before and after, and carry out stirrups".

At that time, Yongzheng was vigorously rectifying the rule of officials. Nian Qianyao, as his minister, took the lead in violating the law and discipline and dragging him back, which made Yongzheng quite angry.

In the third year of Yongzheng, at this time, those imperial brothers and brothers who participated in the dispute over the concubine had also been suppressed and detained by Yongzheng, and Yongzheng's imperial power had been further consolidated.

This year, auspicious rui appeared in the sky, so officials from all over the world went to the congratulatory table to congratulate him.

Nian Qianyao also drafted a congratulatory list, on which he sang praises to Yongzheng.

Who knew that after Yongzheng read this congratulatory watch, he was furious and said that he "had merit and showed disrespect."

Originally, Nian Qianyao hurriedly wrote "Chao Qian Xi Ti" as "Xi Ti Chao Qian".

When Yongzheng rebuked Nian Qianyao, he even mentioned that Nian Qianyao's military achievements in Qinghai were all between his "permission and not allowing", which means that I said you have, you have, I want to say that you don't have, you don't.

Subsequently, Yongzheng replaced all the Sichuan and Shaanxi officials recommended by Nian Qianyao, and at the same time asked Nian Qianyao to surrender his military power and become the general of Hangzhou.

All this was like a storm, so that Nian Qianyao could not have an accurate judgment for a while.

He really couldn't believe that Yongzheng, who had been with him not long ago to be an example for the kings and lords of the ages, would have such a weak affection. At the same time, he also had the psychology of luck, thinking that he was kind to Yongzheng and Yongzheng did not dare to be unfavorable to him. Because the act of "unloading and killing donkeys" will make thousands of people point fingers.

Therefore, until Nian Qianyao was arrested and imprisoned, until Yongzheng's 92 felonies were promulgated, he still had illusions that Yongzheng would protect him.

Who knows the edict of waiting and waiting, waiting for Yongzheng's "self-judgment in prison".

Getting this result, Nian Qianyao cried bitterly and lost his voice. However, at this time, it was too late, even if it was to admit his mistake to Yongzheng, it would not help.

After Nian Qianyao's death, Yongzheng's official rectification immediately changed significantly. This was exactly what Yongzheng hoped to see, and sacrificing a Nian Tangyao who had once been kind to him was still worth it in his opinion.
