Beijing, October 16 (Xinhua) -- The 2021 "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Science Award" was announced at the National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the 15th, and four outstanding young and middle-aged scientists in the field of space science won this award.
Sun Yele of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hu Yan of the University of Science and Technology of China, Zhang Qinghe of Shandong University, and Zhang Aibing of the National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were awarded the "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Science Award" in the fields of atmospheric physics, geophysics, space physics and space exploration, respectively.
The "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Science Award", formerly known as the "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Science Work Award", was changed to its current name in 2002 with the approval of the State Science and Technology Awards Work Office, and was awarded every two years to reward China's young and middle-aged scientific and technological workers who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of atmospheric physics, geophysics, space physics and space exploration.
Academician Zhao Jiuzhang is a pioneer in China's space science and a pioneer in space exploration technology, and one of the founders of Modern Atmospheric Science in China. The "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Science Award" was awarded to encourage the young generation of scientific and technological workers to take Academician Zhao Jiuzhang as an example and make unremitting efforts to develop China's space science cause.
It is reported that the average age of the applicants for this year's "Zhao Jiuzhang Excellent Young and Middle-Aged Science Award" is 41.02 years old, 40.5% are under 40 years old (inclusive), and the youngest is 33 years old. The applicants included two female scientists.
