Hunan Daily New Hunan client reporter Yu Rong

July 15, 2019, is the 9th day that Wu Si, a 2016 graduate of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, "returned" to his alma mater.

The fancy girl, who had just turned 25, left her beloved world on the afternoon of July 5 after fighting uterine cancer for more than nine months. According to her will before her death, her body was donated to her alma mater, Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, and in such a sad and heartwarming way, she "returned" to her beloved alma mater on July 6.

"Wu Si, selfless!" In the course of the interview, her relatives, classmates, and teachers all used this sentence to describe to reporters the girl's love for the medical cause and her enthusiasm for the world.

"I am very relieved that she has stayed in the world in this special way"

Wu Si did not have the idea of donating his body until he was ill.

In the first medical anatomy class of the sophomore year, when the teacher introduced Wu Si and his classmates to the lack of sources of remains that can be used for medical dissection, Wu Si had already moved this idea. "She discussed with us very seriously at that time, saying that as a medical student, she wanted to break through the traditional concept of 'the skin of the body, the parents, dare not damage it', and after death, she would donate the body to the medical cause." Wu Si's classmate Xiao Huang recalled.

Wu Si, who had this idea, wrote down his thoughts in his diary and carried out his plan step by step. In 2015, she registered as a hematopoietic stem cell donation volunteer. In 2016, she logged on to the organ donation website to submit an organ donation application.

In September 2018, Wu Si was admitted to the hospital for examination due to unbearable abdominal pain, and was diagnosed with a uterine undifferentiated sarcoma with a high degree of malignancy and easy to metastasize and recur. After undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and targeted therapy at the Third Xiangya Hospital, Wu Si's condition improved, and then deteriorated sharply.

On December 4, 2018, Wu Si, accompanied by his mother Wu Jurong, went to Xiangya Third Hospital for a re-examination. After the review, Wu Si asked her mother to go home first, saying that she still had something to do. After more than two hours, Wu Si brought back a stack of forms.

It was a stack of body donation application forms. "Seeing those forms, my tears fell down. I never thought that she was in a critical period of treatment, but I thought about the donation of her body. Wu Jurong recalled the past and choked up several times.

In mid-March this year, Wu Si returned to his hometown of Hanzhong, Shaanxi Province, for conservative treatment. As her condition continued to deteriorate, Wu Si continued to have a fever, cough, and vomiting, and the pain caused her to not even sleep all night. However, her heart is still thinking about the donation of the body.

On June 29, Wu Si, who was unable to speak, sent a will to his mother Wu Jurong by text message on his mobile phone, the first of which was the disposal of the body: "The body was sent to Changsha in a long-distance funeral car to donate to Xiangya Medical College." ”

At the time of death, Wu Si told her mother that if she passed out, she should not be sent to the ICU ward and should not be rescued. "I know my daughter wants her body to return to her alma mater as completely as possible." Seeing her mother Wu Jurong desperately nodding her head in agreement, Wu Sicai shook her mother's hand and went to sleep peacefully.

This time, Wu Si never woke up again. Wu Jurong endured the grief and contacted Pan Aihua, director of the Medical Morphology Experimental Center of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University. Traveling back and forth for 2,100 kilometers, on the evening of July 6, Wu Si was picked up and returned to his "home". Two of her corneas were donated to two teenagers in Hunan to help them regain their light.

"I'm glad she stayed in the world in this special way." Wu Jurong said.

"As a Xiangya person, I am very heartbroken and proud"

At the Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, every teacher and student was deeply touched by Wu Si's great love.

"I didn't expect such a skinny little girl to make such a great decision." Xu Keqian, director of the Laboratory Department of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, where Wu Si studied before his death, recalled that Wu Si was both excellent in character and learning during his studies at the school, and was very enthusiastic about the cause of medicine, and he was particularly serious about every experiment. "I think Wu Si should not only love medicine and Xiangya, but also love this society and the world, so she will donate her body to her alma mater without hesitation."

"White-haired people send black-haired people, and as a Xiangya person, I am very heartbroken and proud. May all Xiangya people make greater contributions to human health. Professor Luo Xuegang, a national-level teaching teacher and human anatomy at Xiangya Medical College, said.

Xia Kun, executive vice president of Xiangya Medical College, said that the donation of the body is after the end of life, and a person gets a new life in another form. Wu Si has walked through her short and wonderful life with great love, but her spirit of loving the medical cause and dedicating herself to the medical cause will always inspire Xiangya students, all Xiangya people and all medical workers.

"I didn't expect her to 'go back' to her alma mater in such a way. In addition to the shock, we are more admiring. Wu Si's classmate Shu Jie said that Wu Si is a very loving person, in his freshman year, Wu Si often participated in love public welfare activities, went to the ward many times to provide love services for patients, and went to orphanages and homes for the elderly to send warmth to children and the elderly.

Wu Si also particularly likes to paint, do handicrafts, and photography. "She is a person who loves life very much, and she is also very strong in the face of illness." Shu Jie said that during Wu Si's illness, he visited many times, and each time Wu Si was optimistic. In the circle of friends, Wu Si described the disease lightly; Several selfies, all carefully dressed up, show a shallow smile.
