The old man, who was 76 years old at the time, was admitted to the 301 Hospital because he was diagnosed with rectal cancer last year. Although the hospital was a place to treat diseases, in fact, the hospital was like a cage to the old man. The ward was too cold to be good, and even the summer sun was covered with a layer of paper because the glass was pasted, and it could not shine a ray of light.
Here, he could not write, could not listen to the radio, and even had limited activities. In his final months, when he was suffering from the spread of cancer cells, no one around him cared about him. When he was in so much pain that he could not do it, he could only think of "death", so he shouted at the guards outside the door:
"Guard soldier, I can't help it anymore, I can't stand it, you help me shoot!"

On the day of Peng Dehuai's death, his niece Peng Meikui learned the bad news. Because of the special circumstances at that time, the staff who went to inform her clearly explained that she was not allowed to cry when she arrived. But it was his own uncle, Peng Meikui could not hold back any longer when he saw his uncle's body, and he cried like rain of tears until he fainted.
By the time she woke up again, Peng Dehuai's body had been taken away, but when she asked, "Was my uncle's body cremated?" Where are the ashes placed? "When it comes to these questions, no one around can answer them.

On December 20, 1978, two officers of the special case review team were ordered by the Central Military Commission to rush to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and went straight to the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, claiming to see the Secretary-General. Responsible for receiving them was Zhang Zhenya, then deputy secretary general of the provincial party committee, who took the letter they handed out and opened it, which clearly read:
I would like to introduce the three comrades Yan ××, Ren ×× to learn about the storage of Comrade Peng Dehuai's ashes, please contact.
After reading it, Zhang Zhenya couldn't help but be surprised, and at the same time, he had a lot of doubts in his heart. When Peng Dehuai went to Sichuan to work, Zhang Zhenya did know, but as for the storage of the boss's ashes, he was completely unaware of it, and today he heard for the first time that the boss's ashes were placed in Sichuan. So Zhang Zhenya instinctively asked: Is there something wrong in the middle, is there a mistake?
"In the winter of 1974, did two soldiers fly from Beijing to deliver an urn?"
Coincidentally, when Zhang Zhenya was the deputy head of the office group, he was really responsible for an urn sent from Beijing by a special person, and his superiors clearly explained that this urn should be "carefully kept, often inspected, not allowed to change the box, and not transferred." But the name is "Wang Chuan"!
Thinking of this, Zhang Zhenya suddenly understood that it was so mysterious because it was the ashes of Mr. Peng. After the idea was affirmed by the two officers, the mystery hidden in Zhang Zhenya's heart for 4 years was finally solved.
Because the ashes of "Wang Chuan" on that day were too special, Zhang Zhenya always remembered things very clearly, even the urn number "273" was clearly remembered. So the crowd immediately drove to the crematorium on the eastern outskirts of Chengdu. After seeing that the ashes of "Wang Chuan" numbered "273" were still there, the big stone in the hearts of the two officers finally fell, and after repeatedly telling Zhang Zhenya to continue to keep it well, he took a plane back to Beijing to resume his life.
The Third Plenum of the Eleventh Central Committee was held in Beijing on December 18, and according to Chen Yun's proposal, the erroneous conclusions about Peng Dehuai were discussed at the meeting. The meeting affirmed all that Peng Dehuai had paid for the cause of Chinese people's revolution and construction, which meant that Peng Dehuai had finally sunk his grievances. Moreover, after consultation between the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, it was decided to hold a memorial service for him, which was scheduled for the 24th.
In the early morning of the 22nd, the telephone of the General Office of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee rang, and the other end of the phone clearly informed that the CPC Central Committee was going to hold a meeting for Peng Dehuai, and there would be civil aviation planes landing at Shuangliu Airport to pick up...
After answering the phone, Zhang Zhenya immediately sorted out the contents of the phone call into a report and sent it to the office of Secretary Du Xinyuan. Then the two drove to the eastern suburbs, took out Peng Dehuai's ashes to the provincial party committee, and waited for someone to pick them up.
In 1974, the ashes of "Wang Chuan" were sent to Chengdu for storage on December 23, and in 1978, Peng Dehuai's ashes were brought back to Beijing from Chengdu on December 23, a full four years.
On the 24th, more than 2,000 people walked into the Great Hall of the People to mourn Mr. Peng. Ye Jianying presided, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping delivered a mournful eulogy. On the same day, Mr. Peng's ashes were sent to the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery for burial.

Zhou Enlai and Peng Dehuai had a lifelong friendship, and Zhou Enlai had been taking care of Peng Dehuai as much as possible. In 1973, Peng Dehuai was diagnosed with rectal cancer, and it was Zhou Enlai who personally wrote the approval and asked the director of the Zhongnanhai Outpatient Department to go to the 301 Hospital. After the surgical plan was finally determined, he personally approved it.
Although the operation was smooth, because Peng Dehuai was already in the advanced stage of cancer at that time, the cancer cells had spread, which made Peng Dehuai suffer a lot of pain in the last few months.
After learning the news of Peng Dehuai's death, Zhou Enlai was devastated, but due to the special circumstances, the current memorial service could not be held. Therefore, when the special case team reported the opinions on the handling of Peng Dehuai's ashes to Zhou Enlai, he deliberately gave instructions to the relevant personnel: carefully keep it, check it from time to time, and not allow the box to be changed, and not to transfer it. It was the last thing he could do for him.

Peng Dehuai's body was dragged on until December 17, when he was sent by the hospital to be secretly sent to the crematorium for cremation. At that time, the pseudonym "Wang Chuan" was already written on the white sheet covering his body. On the cremation application form, the applicant's name is Wang Kui, and the relationship with the deceased is father and son.
It is worth mentioning that Peng Dehuai, the founding father who devoted his life to communism, was still paid for the cremation after his death from his meager living expenses at that time. That is to say, from the life of Mr. Peng, he has not spent a penny of public money in the end...
A few days later, two soldiers, carrying Peng Dehuai's ashes and a letter of introduction presented by the General Office of the State Council, flew from Beijing to Chengdu and went straight to the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee to convey the task of "secretly protecting Peng Dehuai's ashes."
For the sake of safety, the storage slip also deliberately did not truthfully write 76 years old, filled in the 32 years old.
In this way, Peng Dehuai's ashes stayed in Chengdu, Sichuan For four years, and were buried in Babaoshan Cemetery on December 24, 1978. However, it is still not the final "destination" of Mr. Peng.

On December 28, 1999, Peng Dehuai's ashes were moved out of Babaoshan and accompanied by his niece Peng Gang and several relatives to be placed in Wushizhai Cemetery in Xiangtan, Hunan Province.
It was Peng Dehuai's hometown, and this arrangement was also in accordance with his last wishes.
Peng Dehuai has no children, and has always regarded his nephews and nieces as his own, of which his niece Peng Gang is very close to him, and he has mentioned the aftermath to Peng Gang three times before his death.

The first time, after the first time of the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Peng Dehuai told Peng Gang that he voluntarily followed the decision of the meeting, did not bury after death, and put the ashes into the gourd planted in his hometown after cremation and threw it into the sea. It is also said that Engels gave it to his children in this way.
And the reason why he did this is very simple, because before he was born, he did not have the opportunity to take a good look at the world, to see the people everywhere, and then he wanted to die...
The second time, it was the time when Peng Dehuai lived in the Wu Family Garden after he was suspended, and one day he inadvertently mentioned the incident after his death. This time, he asked Peng Gang to bury his ashes in the ground, just like the bones of a fish can be used as fertilizer after death. Then plant an apple tree and eat it when it bears fruit.
The third time was a few days before Peng Dehuai's death, when Peng Gang went to see him at the 301 Hospital. At that time, he was already exhausted by cancer, and he did not know whether he had realized that he did not have much time, so he once again mentioned his posthumous affairs with Peng Gang.
He told Peng Gang with tears that he wanted to be buried with her father after death. But thinking that his father was a revolutionary martyr, he was afraid that his identity at that time would tarnish his brothers.
After Peng Gang heard that his heart was extremely uncomfortable, he told his uncle that he would definitely fulfill his wish for him. Peng Dehuai did not make a sound after listening to it, but just nodded...
In 1996, the Party Central Committee received a report submitted by Peng Gang, which requested that Peng Dehuai's ashes be sent back to his hometown for burial, and the central government approved it. As for why it was not relocated until the end of 1999, it was because the cemetery where Peng Dehuai's two younger brothers were buried was so small that it could not be buried, so with the approval of the central government, after another cemetery was opened next to the cemetery of his two younger brothers, Peng Dehuai's ashes were finally sent back to his hometown and buried under the green mountain.
