The spread of new ideas gave Chinese a great leap forward in their sense of autonomy, and those who had been imprisoned by feudal ideas for thousands of years began to come into contact with democracy and freedom for the first time. These new ideas also exerted unprecedented effects in the iron horse of the great powers.
In that era, Chinese, who had been bullied and humiliated by the great powers, deeply felt that "the country will not be a country", and workers' strikes and student strikes and demonstrations occurred from time to time, which was Chinese using practical actions to promote patriotic ideas.
In many student movements, there is a female student who is well known for slapping Mr. Cai Yuanpei, and she is Xue Xun. So what's behind this story?
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="3" > the reason behind it</h1>
Xue Xun, whose original name was Xue Shengyu, was born in 1910 in Kaifeng, Henan Province. Her family was poor, and both of her parents died when she was 15 years old. Later, with excellent results, he was admitted to a local high school, but because he had no money to pay tuition, he had to drop out of the flour mill children's primary school as a teacher.
Orphaned at an early age, she suffered a lot of life, which made her deeply realize that her only way out was to study. In 1927, she was admitted to the National Women's University in Beijing, but was ordered to stop the class because she did not have the money to pay the tuition fee.
In 1929, she worked hard again to enter the Art College of Peking University. In order not to repeat the mistakes of the past, she can only work while studying.
As new cultural ideas spread, she read a great deal of books about the Chinese Communist Party during her time at school, such as the Communist Manifesto. Deeply influenced by the progressive ideas inside, she later joined the Writers' Union in Beijing and became a journalist.
One night on September 18, 1931, the Japanese Kwantung Army blew up the Tsarist South Manchuria Railway in Shenyang and blamed it on the Chinese army. To this end, the Japanese army used this as an excuse to launch artillery bombardment of our Shenyang North Camp and launched a provocation.
At that time, Zhang Xueliang's troops guarded the north camp, and in the face of the provocation of the Japanese army, Zhang Xueliang urgently ordered his subordinates to "not resist, not to move, and to put the gun in the warehouse." In this way, the Japanese army used only 300 people to annihilate the 8,000 defenders of the North Camp.
Subsequently, the Japanese launched a more fierce attack, and Zhang Xueliang took the opportunity to retreat to Jinzhou. At this time, the Nationalist government called Zhang Xueliang: "No matter what, we must actively resist." However, Zhang Xueliang once again suppressed the government order and continued to implement the "policy of non-resistance".
In this way, in less than half a year, the Japanese army successfully won the power of the entire three northeastern provinces. This result caused a strong shock in society, and demonstrations were held in various places to denounce the "policy of non-resistance" of the Nationalist government and let Japan return the three eastern provinces.
It was also at this time that Peking University began to stir up trouble, quickly organizing student strikes and marching in the streets to ask the government for an explanation.

After the news of the fall of the three northeastern provinces reached Peiping, it aroused the indignation of all sectors of society. At this time, Xue Xun had just joined the Communist Party of China, and he hated the Japanese to the bone, and was even more angry at the "policy of non-resistance" of the Nationalist government.
So on December 7, 1931, she organized students to decide to go to Nanjing to ask the Nationalist government for an explanation. But the best way to get to Nanjing quickly is to take the train, but they are all poor students, no money and no weapons, what to do?
They consulted the train station, but got no reply. Unable to do so, Xue Xun raised his arms and pulled thousands of students to lie down on the tracks, forcing the train station to agree to their boarding of the train.
In this way, thousands of students slept on the railway station for three days before they were allowed to take a ride south, which is known as the "Southward Movement".
Upon arriving in Nanjing, the students immediately divided into two major factions, one was a petition group and the other was a demonstration group. Xue Xun became the conductor of the demonstrations, leading the students to ask the government for explanations in a fierce manner.
The delegation was received by the Government and quickly reached agreement. However, the demonstration group led by Xue Xun was in a state of agitation and rushed into the central building of the government.
In the central building, a group of leaders were holding a meeting and were startled by the sudden arrival of the students. In desperation, Chen Mingshu and Cai Yuanpei could only be pushed out to deal with the students of the demonstration group.
Chen Mingshu was the commander of the Beijing-Shanghai garrison at the time, and launched a war of words with Xue Xun, but was eventually defeated. Xue Xun has excellent speech ability and eloquence, and Chen Mingshu is naturally not her opponent. When it is Cai Yuanpei's turn to shoot, what will be the end?
As we all know, Cai Yuanpei is a "titan" in the field of education in china's modern history, and is a respected teacher and elderly man. Now that he is 65 years old, he is deeply saddened as a teacher to see this group of indignant students.
He did not want to fight with Xue Xun for a win or lose, but from the perspective of a teacher, he bitterly advised: "Your task is to study well, and it is a pity to delay your studies like this."
However, the students who were overwhelmed by anger could not listen to Cai Yuanpei's words at all, not only that, but some people smashed Cai Yuanpei's brain door with a wooden stick, and Chen Mingshu was also knocked to the ground.
At this time, Xue Xun, who was the leader, immediately rushed to Cai Yuanpei's side and gave him a loud slap, and this slap completely blinded Cai Yuanpei. At this moment, the scene was chaotic, and the police had to shoot in the air.
As soon as the gun sounded, the scene was even more chaotic, fleeing and running, and there was a group of people who firmly stood here and took Cai Yuanpei as a hostage. Cai Yuanpei shouted, "Don't be afraid, it's an air robbery, you don't want this," but his voice was drowned out in chaos.
Subsequently, the students dragged Cai Yuanpei outside the door with a noisy commotion, and after the group walked to the suburbs, the police rescued Cai Yuanpei.
Later, Xue Xun was arrested by the police, and later because of the students' strong will to demand Xue Xun's release, in order to avoid further conflict, Xue Xun was released.

After the "Southward Movement", Xue Xun returned to Beiping to become a women's minister and officially entered the daily work of CCP members.
After the founding of New China, Xue Xun was appointed deputy secretary of the Hebei Provincial CPC Committee and other important positions. Once she went to report to Chairman Mao on her work, and after the report, she chatted with the chairman about her past experiences, and Chairman Mao praised her one after another: "You are a heroine among women."
Xue Xun made great contributions to the economic construction of Hebei Province in the early days of liberation, and she herself was indeed honest, honest, diligent and thrifty. When her brother died, leaving five minor children, Xue Xun took on the heavy responsibility of raising him without saying a word.
In September 1978, Xue Xun died in Beijing at the age of 68 and was buried in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery.
In that era of being bullied by the great powers, it was difficult for any Chinese to calmly look at the fact that the land had been plundered. Xue Xun was a patriotic and enthusiastic schoolgirl, and her righteous indignation and impulsiveness expressed the innumerable anger of Young Chinese people towards the Japanese.
Although in the conflict, she slapped Mr. Cai Yuanpei with anger, but Elder Cai did not blame anything, but was deeply sad about the students' behavior. In his view, students abandon their studies and march on the streets is that the teachers are not well educated.
