Cairo, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Interview with China's development achievements prove that its democratic model is reasonable and effective - Interview with the famous Egyptian jurist Shuki Saeed

Xinhua News Agency reporter Wu Dani Mahmoud Fuli

In an exclusive interview with a Xinhua reporter in Cairo a few days ago, Shuki Saeed, a well-known Egyptian jurist, said that China's tremendous development achievements have proved that China's whole process of democracy is reasonable and effective, has promoted the country's development and progress, and stimulated the people's creative vitality.

China's people's democracy is a kind of democracy in the whole process, and all major legislative decisions are produced in accordance with procedures, through democratic brewing, and through scientific decision-making and democratic decision-making. Saeed pointed out that democracy is based on popular participation in decision-making. When China bases its legislation on broad public participation, it means that it is following democratic principles in a reasonable and effective manner.

"The closer a legislator is to the people, the more successful the legislation will be." Sayyid explained that the more legislation reflects the interests of the people, the more persuasive it is and respected.

Saeed is a professor of law at Cairo University, an advisor to the Egyptian National Council, and the author of several important legal monographs.

As an expert who has been engaged in legislative work and legal research for many years, Saeed believes that Chinese-style democracy requires legislators to maintain closer ties with the people and solve the people's most pressing problems, which is one of the salient characteristics of socialism with Chinese characteristics and is also different from the capitalist democratic system of socialist democracy.

In particular, Saeed stressed that voting is not equal to democracy, because voting can be affected and interfered with by many factors, and it can represent the tendency of opinion, but it cannot represent real and deep participation. For example, China's public solicitation of concrete measures to implement the spirit of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the 2035 Long-Term Goals is a case of participation in the whole process.

From November 9 to 23, 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission organized online and offline simultaneous activities to ask for advice and advice in the "Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan", with 393,000 views on the online activity platform and 37,000 suggestions received; more than 4,000 questionnaires were distributed to key groups in offline activities. In addition, the opinions and suggestions of some youth representatives were specially heard.

Saeed was impressed with the way China combines advanced internet and digital technologies with people's participation in the decision-making process. He said digital technology directed public opinion to government officials and legislators, which can go a long way toward solving people's problems and expanding participation in decision-making.

"Advanced technology combined with a pragmatic mindset that prioritizes the interests of the people will bear sweet fruit." Said said.

Regarding the smear of Chinese-style democracy in some Western countries, Sayyid said that this is obviously for political purposes and to hinder China's development and progress.

"Democracy is about content and results." Said stressed that China has achieved economic and scientific development and progress, and the people's sense of happiness has been continuously improved, which is the fruitful result of its democratic model, which is worthy of further study and exploration by the whole world with an objective and rational attitude.

Saeed said that democracy in Western countries is formalism, and many of its realities contradict democracy, and some people in the West choose to turn a blind eye to the laws and democracies and even political systems that can better achieve justice and fairness.

"A democratic model with connotation, spirit and results is truly democratic." Said said. (End)
